Eric Roberts was born on April 18, 1956, in Biloxi, Mississippi. Raised in Georgia, he made his first television appearance in 1964 on the long-running soap opera Another World. Although it was a small part, it would be the beginning of his long-running acting career. His first film appearance was in the 1978 drama King of the Gypsies, which also featured Brooke Shields and Susan Sarandon. After appearing in several relatively ignored films, Roberts gained some recognition for his supporting role in Runaway Train. His portrayal as escaped convict Buck, in the 1985 film earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Although this was his only nomination, he has had a steady film career since, appearing in many films such as The Cable Guy, which starred Jim Carrey; the thriller Wrong Number; and A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, which also featured Robert Downey Jr. Eric has also built an impressive portfolio of television appearances, appearing in such well known series as Touched by an Angel, The King of Queens, and more recently, CSI Miami. Roberts was a member of the lead cast for the sitcom Less Than Perfect for several years. His upcoming films include the dramatic flicks One Way and Dark Honeymoon.

In addition to appearing as a screen and television actor, Roberts has appeared in several music videos for the The Killers and solo artist Mariah Carey. He has done voice work for the animated Nickelodeon series Danny Phantom, and has also been a contestant on the game show Hollywood Squares.

Eric's younger sister super-star Julia, the brunette bombshell with the big smile, is one of Hollywood’s premier romantic actresses, appearing in a multitude of films including Pretty Woman, Notting Hill, and Runaway Bride. Before marrying his current wife, Eric Roberts was involved with Kelly Cunningham. During their relationship, Kelly gave birth to daughter Emma Roberts who, as a young girl, played the lead role on the Nickelodeon series Unfabulous. The couple split up shortly after Emma’s birth, amidst domestic violence allegations. Roberts married his wife Eliza, a television and screen actress who has appeared in Animal House and The Double in 1992. The couple is currently married but do not have children.
