Evan Rachel Wood Appearing in her first production when she was only months old, this Jewish American actress seems to have been born for the spotlight. Although she has not yet reached her twentieth birthday, Evan already has an impressive list of appearances in television and film. No diva, Wood describes herself as laid back, preferring to distance herself from the Hollywood scene. Evan Rachel Wood was born on September 7, 1987, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her mother was an actress while her father participated in many realms of the entertainment industry as an actor, playwright, singer, and as the director of the theater known as Theatre in the Park. Evan appeared in several of her father’s stage productions at an early age, including her first appearance when she was an infant in A Christmas Carol and a starring role as Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker. After winning some small roles in made for television movies, Wood had a recurring role on the ultimately unsuccessful series Once and Again, and her fellow cast member was The O.C. star Mischa Barton. Wood’s first major role on the big screen was in the 1998 film Digging to China, which also featured Kevin Bacon. Despite the challenges of working on the film, Evan enjoyed it immensely and knew then for certain that she wanted to pursue acting as a life-long career. After appearing in a number of little known films, Wood gained recognition for her role in the drama Thirteen. The film was a partly autobiographical account of Thirteen co-star and real life friend Nikki Reed. Her role as a good girl who gets drawn into a world of sex and drugs earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress and led to her being featured on the cover of the iconic fashion magazine, Vogue. Since Thirteen, she has starred in the sexually-themed independent films Pretty Persuasion and Down in the Valley, but insists her motivation for accepting such risqué roles is to spread awareness, rather than shock audiences. She is set to appear in the upcoming film Running With Scissors, which also stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Annette Bening. Wood will also appear in the musical Across the Universe. Having accomplished so much at such a young age, Evan is arguably one of Hollywood’s greatest young talents.
Evan is currently dating English Jamie Bell, an actor who recently appeared in the King Kong remake directed by Peter Jackson. Bell and Evan have shared the screen in the popular Green Day video "Wake Me Up When September Ends" where the two play a young couple torn apart by his decision to join the Marines. YUDDY |
