Freddie Highmore Bio

Freddie Highmore

A fresh new face on the movie scene but not so new to the profession having been in the performing business since he was just seven years old and having been born into a family whose roots were in show business in the United Kingdom.

Freddie Highmore was born in London, England on February 14th 1992 where his mother is a talent agent and his father is an actor who is best known for his role in ‘Howard’s Way’, a series based on the events in a boatbuilding family living on the Hamble River in Southampton, Hampshire, once the home of Jane Austen.

At the age of seven Freddie landed the role of Peter Darling in ‘Finding Neverland’ which saw his career beginning with a bang when he starred with Kate Winslet, Johnny Depp and Dustin Hoffman. His role opposite three of Hollywood’s greats was critically acclaimed and was followed with several awards and nominations for his performance. Winslet called him the best child actor she had ever seen and Highmore received a Screen Actors' Guild nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Blossoming very quickly into a fine performer and having created a strong bond between himself and Depp, 2005 saw Depp recommending Freddie for a role in Tim Burton’s blockbuster movie ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ in which Freddie played Charlie Bucket opposite even more accomplished award winning actors, Christopher Lee, Helena Bonham Carter and Depp.

At this time Freddie was reported to have remarked that he had no plans to pursue a career in acting which was regarded as a shame, given the enormity of his talent. Prior to reaching the dizzy heights of featuring in Hollywood blockbusters, Freddie had appeared in 1999 in an English movie with Helena Bonham Carter and Anjelica Huston, ‘Women Talking Dirty’ and then the TV mini series, ‘The Mists of Avalon’ which saw Freddie starring as a young King Arthur.  Freddie’s other encounters with established actors came when in 2001 when he appeared in the CBS movie "Jack and the Beanstalk: The Real Story" starring Matthew Modine and Vanessa Redgrave.

Still at the tender age of twelve, in 2004, Freddie starred opposite Kenneth Branagh and Eddie Izzard in "Five Children and It", a sweet movie in which the children find that magic can become somewhat difficult when their wishes are granted on a daily basis.

A busy year unfolded in 2004 for Freddie when he traveled to the jungles of Cambodia to play a French boy who adopts a young tiger cub in Jean-Jacques Annaud's "Two Brothers" also starring Australian actor, Guy Pearce.

With no end in site to the career of the child actor who once remark he did not intend to follow a career in acting, 2006 had Freddie cast as a young Russell Crowe in Ridley Scott's "A Good Year" which also starred Albert Finney as Crowe’s, Uncle Henry Skinner.

2007 took Freddie to work in New York City where he starred in ‘August Rush’, a touching story about a child who’s musical parents conceived him out of wedlock and put out for adoption. As the years pass and he grows up in a children’s home his biggest wish is that through his own music his parents may find him. The movie stars a cowboy style country singing Robin Williams and Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Freddie’s parents. William’s role as ‘Wizard’ is believed to have been inspired by Irish rock star, Bono
