Gavin Rossdale Bio
Gavin Rossdale

Bush frontman, Gavin Rossdale, was born on October 30,1965, in Kilburn, London, England. Rossdale’s parents divorced when he was eleven years old and he was subsequently raised by his father and aunt. His mother, who remarried, moved to the United States, settling in Florida. Rossdale began playing bass guitar under the influence of his sister Soraya's boyfriend, who played in a band called The Nobodyz. While in his late-teens, Rossdale began to focus on his athletic abilities, playing semi-professional football until an injury cut short his force on the field. He then formed a band called Little Dukes, which he later renamed Midnight.

In 1991, Rossdale set off for Los Angeles, where he worked various odd jobs, including working as a production assistant for video shoots. After also living in New York City for a brief period, Rossdale returned to England to start a new band. By 1992, Rossdale had formed Future Primitive, which changed its name to Bush in 1994. That same year, the band released its debut album, Sixteen Stone. The hit song "Glycerine" launched the album into to commercial success. Suddenly, the band had gone from playing gigs at local English pubs to filling stadium seats overseas.

Despite facing the criticism that they relied too heavily on the sounds of such bands as Nirvana and Pixies, the band, and in particular Rossdale, was a hit with their audiences. Rossdale often expressed frustration with the attention he received for his sex-symbol status, once declaring, "There's nothing worse than someone coming up to me and going ‘Oh God, I really love your hair’" and "I know that sometimes we get accused of being a band that's successful on account of my average cheek bones. But it IS a good band."

Although Bush succeeded in cracking the US market, their rankings on the UK charts were disappointing. After switching record labels, shifting management and taking a hiatus, the band officially split up in 2002. Also that year, Rossdale lent his voice to the Sony Pictures XXX soundtrack for the song "Adrenaline," which also became the official theme song for World Wrestling Entertainment's (WWE) pay-per-view special Unforgiven. Meanwhile, Rossdale made his foray into acting, starring in the vampire flick Constantine in 2005, alongside Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz; as well as a cameo appearance in Zoolander in 2001, with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.

In 2004, Rossdale formed another band, Institute. That same year, a paternity test confirmed that Rossdale was the father of a sixteen year old girl named Daisy Lowe. Rossdale had previously been involved with Lowe’s mother, fashion designer, Pearl Lowe, and had even been named Daisy’s godfather.

On September 14, 2002, Rossdale married girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, the lead vocalist of No Doubt, who has in recent years pioneered a successful solo career and clothing line. Widely regarded as one of the music industry’s coolest couples, Rossdale and Stefani maintain a relatively low-profile. On May 26, 2006, the couple welcomed the birth of son, Kingston James McGregor Rossdale. The family divides their time between homes in Primrose Hill, London and California.
