With all the Gaelic charm and ruggedness you’d expect from a Scotsman of Irish descent, Gerard Butler, never fails to deliver a performance that leaves your wanting more and more.

Born in Scotland on November 13^th 1969, the first couple of years of Gerard’s life were spent in Montreal, Canada until his parents, Margaret and Edward, divorced and his mother returned to Scotland with Gerard and his siblings.

From then on, Gerard would not see his father again until he was sixteen years old.

Gerard’s education saw him studying law at the university of Glasgow until fate intervened and he developed and interest in stage and all things acting. His first role was in Coriolanus and the stage version of Trainspotting.

Gerard’s first big role came in the 1997’s movie, Mrs Brown, based on the secret love of Queen Victoria played by Judi Dench and Archie Brown played by another Scot, Billy Connolly.

Another movie which brought Butler to the attention of the viewing public was the James Bond movie, Tomorrow Never Dies, in which he landed a small but welcomed role.

Butler’s career then took him on to star in many television roles in the United Kingdom in 1999 including, Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married and The Cherry Orchard which also starred Alan Bates and Charlotte Rampling.

The end of the nineties was a busy time for Gerard when he also began filming his first lead role as Attila the Hun in the American TV miniseries Attila. During filming of Attila, the production actually stopped in order for him to film his second lead role as Dracula in Wes Craven’s Dracula 2000.

Once again, in 2003, Gerard worked alongside Billy Connolly in Timeline and in the same year Butler had the pleasure of working with Brad Pitt’s girlfriend, Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. In the movie Michael Crichton, which starred George Clooney, Butler played archaeologist Andre Marek.

With his star rising Butler soon gained the attention of Andrew Lloyd Webber who cast him as the lead in the film version of ‘Phantom of the Opera’ with Patrick Wilson as Raoul and Minnie Driver as Madame Giry.

In 2006, Butler completed filming Shattered with Pierce Brosnan in which his perfect family life is shattered by the kidnapping of his daughter.

Gerard moved over to a more romantic role in the 208 movie P.S. I Love You where he starred with the Oscar winning Hillary Swank as her new love interest following the death of her husband.

With his musical abilities, which he showed to their full extent in P.S., and Phantom, he was a welcome participant in the UK leg of Live Earth, the musical collaboration put together by former U.S. presidential runner, Al Gore, which took place at Wembley Stadium in London in July 2007 and saw Butler performing along side, Duran Duran, James Blunt, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Madonna and Snow Patrol.

With his rugged good looks, his charming accent and well stacked 6ft 2inch physique Gerard was voted in Entertainment Weekly’s poll as number 5 in the Ultimate Male Hottie of All Time.

In 2007 Butler signed contracts to appear in three movies, Nim's Island, which will also star Jodie Foster and Abigail Breslin, The Untouchables: Capone Rising, and RocknRolla, a gangster film directed by Guy Ritchie. Butler is cast as One-Two, a street-smart gangster involved in a lucrative real-estate scheme.

Gerard is currently a bachelor and spends his time in London, but he also spends time in Los Angeles and New York City.
