Gillian AndersonGillian Anderson is an actress who will always be associated with the role in which she made her name. She played FBI agent Dana Scully in the cult show The X-Files for a decade. Born in 1968 in Chicago, the family moved to London and then to Michigan where she attended high school. Anderson acted in productions at school and in community theater. After studying drama in Chicago, she moved to New York where she worked in stage productions. Anderson then moved to Los Angeles, appearing in episodes of TV shows and was soon cast in The X Files.
The X-Files ran from 1993-2002. Created by Chris Carter, it gained a loyal fan base who loved the show’s dark science fiction plots. Gillian Anderson played opposite David Duchovny as Fox Mulder, and the pair investigated a new supernatural phenomenon every week. Scully was the skeptic, and Mulder was the believer in alien life forms.
Gillian found time to also make a movie in 2000, a romantic drama called The House of Mirth. Directed by Terence Davies from a novel by Edith Wharton, it featured an impressive cast alongside Anderson. Her co-stars were Dan Aykroyd, Eleanor Bron, Anthony LaPaglia, Laura Linney, Elizabeth McGovern, and Eric Stoltz.
After The-X Files finished, Anderson scored roles in more movies and also went back to the theater. She was cast in The Mighty Celt, a movie set in Ireland; the movie also starred Robert Carlyle and was directed by Pearse Elliott. Anderson also starred in a British comedy titled A Cock and Bull Story. It was directed by Michael Winterbottom and starred British comic actor Steve Coogan and Keeley Hawes.
BBC cast Gillian Anderson in a television series adaptation from Charles Dickens, titled Bleak House. Gillian’s role of Lady Dedlock was well received. Denis Lawson, Charles Dance, and Timothy West also starred.
A 2006 release date is planned for a comedy film, No One Gets Off In This Town, in which Anderson appears with Brenda Blethyn, Jane Horrocks, and John Hurt. The movie was directed b- Richard Kwietniowski.
Anderson met her first husband while working on The X-Files. Clyde Klotz was assistant art director on the show and they married in 1994. The couple had a daughter together and the marriage ended after the show finished. In 2004, Anderson married documentary filmmaker Julian Ozanne and they split after sixteen months. Anderson then had a second child from her relationship with businessman Mark Griffiths. YUDDY |
