Glenn Close Glenn Close has played many memorable roles both on the silver screen and the stages of Broadway. In film, she is often remembered for her chilling portrayal of Alex Forrest, a disturbed woman obsessed with a married man, played by co-star Michael Douglas in the 1987 blockbuster Fatal Attraction. On Broadway, Close has won three Tony Awards including Best Lead Actress in a Musical in 1995 for her performance in Sunset Boulevard. Glenn Close was born in Greenwich, Connecticut, on March 19, 1947. Born into a family of upper class descent, her father was a doctor who operated a clinic in the area of Africa that is now Zaire. Close grew up with cultural influences from around the world and was educated in private schools. She graduated from the College of William & Mary with a double major in drama and anthropology.
Glenn Close first appeared on Broadway in 1974 in the production Love for Love. In addition to numerous Broadway appearances and film roles, Close has also appeared on television and in made-for-television movies and miniseries. She has won both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her work in television movies and has been nominated for five Oscars, including her role in Fatal Attraction. Often portraying a villainess, Close’s character Alex Forrest was listed at #7 on the American Film Institute’s list of 100 Greatest Screen Villains. Coincidentally, Walt Disney’s Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmatians ranked #25 on the same list. De Vil was the character Close portrayed in the 1996 live action version of 101 Dalmatians. In character true to form, Close also played a memorable role as Madame de Merteuil in Dangerous Liaisons. Film roles also include; The Big Chill in 1983, with Kevin Kline, JoBeth Williams, Meg Tilly, and Jeff Goldblum; Air Force One in 1997, also starring Harrison Ford; and The Stepford Wives in 2004, with Nicole Kidman, Matthew Broderick, Bette Midler, and Christopher Walken. She recently finished filming a new motion picture drama titled Evening, which also stars Meryl Streep.
Close is the mother of one daughter born in 1987 and is currently married. In her spare time, Close might be found at a New York Mets game as she is a life-long fan who has even sung the National Anthem before games.
