Isaiah WashingtonBefore becoming an actor, Isaiah Washington had dreams of becoming the second General Washington and spent four years in the United States Air Force specializing in Aerospace Engineering. He also at one time had dreams of becoming a professional football player.
But when Isaiah saw Spike Lee’s first feature film, She Gotta Have It, he decided to give acting a try. He went to Washington DC’s Howard University and studied drama, and promised himself that in ten years he would be in a Spike Lee film. It took him eight years to fulfill this dream and he has now appeared in four Spike Lee films: Crooklyn in 1994, Clockers in 1995, Girl 6 in 1996, and Get on the Bus also in 1996.
While at Howard University he appeared in a number of stage productions, including Fences and Skin of Our Teeth.

In 2002, he also appeared in the movies Ghost Ship and Welcome to Collinwood. In 2003, he appeared in Hollywood Homicide, and in 2004 he appeared in Moguls and Dead Birds.
Isaiah Washington guest-starred in several television series like NYPD Blue, with Dennis Franz; Law & Order, with Mariska Hargitay; Homicide: Life on the Street; Ally McBeal, with Calista Flockhart; New York Undercover; Living Single; Soul Food; and Touched by an Angel. In 2005, he landed the role of Dr. Preston Burke on Grey’s Anatomy for which he took home the NAACP’s Outstanding Actor in a Series Award. Also starring in Grey's Anatomy are Justin Chambers, TR Knight, Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, Patrick Dempsey, Chandra Wilson, and Kate Walsh.
Isaiah, who sometimes goes by the nicknames Mickey or Ike, was born August 3, 1963, in Houston, Texas. While at Willowridge High School, it’s rumored that he was a bit of a rebel and ended up getting shot.
It’s also rumored that the star has a history of anger problems. In 1997, he was fired from a guest-starring role in the TV show High Incident when police were called in to break up a physical altercation with a crewmember. It’s was reported that in 2000 he lost his temper with the actress playing his wife in Soul Food and wouldn’t calm down even when the show’s director and executive producer stepped in. He has even been recorded as calling fellow Grey’s Anatomy star, T R Knight a derogatory name regarding to T R’s sexual orientation.
Isaiah Washington is married to Jenisa Marie Washington. The two married on February 14, 1999, and have three children together. YUDDY |
