Isla Fisher Biography Isla Lang Fisher is an up and coming Australian actress who has found recent success in 2005’s Wedding Crashers. She is also an accomplished author with two novels under her belt: Seduced by Fame and Bewitched. Fisher was born on February 3, 1976, in Muscat, Oman, which is a Middle Eastern country. Her Scottish parents then moved the family to Perth, Australia in the early 1980s. Her mother is a romance novelist. Fisher also has one stepsister named Conor Reid. Fisher got into acting early in life. At the age of nine she got her start in the business by starring in commercials. Her first job was as an extra for a lottery advertisement. She became so excited that she hyperventilated and almost fainted.
Her first television show was Paradise Beach in 1993, where she played Robyn Devereaux. She then reached fame in Australia on the show, Home and Away, playing the character of Shannon Reed from 1994 to 1997. Fisher then made the jump to American films in 2002’s Scooby-Doo, playing Mary-Jane. The film co-starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini. Fisher received much more attention for her next film in 2005, Wedding Crashers, where she played the quirky sex-crazed senator’s daughter and Vince Vaughn’s love interest. The film co-starred Owen Wilson, Christopher Walken, Rachel McAdams, and Jane Seymour. Her performance earned her an MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance in 2005.
During the promotional tour of Wedding Crashers, Fisher was named the 1,000th guest on the Australian talk show, Rove Live, beating out Owen Wilson by only two meters. Her official coronation was on August 2, 2005. Fisher’s most recent film was London in 2006, co-starring Jessica Biel, Chris Evans, and Jason Statham. She is currently in production for her next film, Hot Rod, which will be released in 2007 and stars Andy Samberg, Sissy Spacek, and Will Arnett. Fisher resides in Los Angeles with her fiancé, Sacha Baron Cohen, an English comedian who became famous for his Da Ali G Show and the film, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan in 2006. She committed herself to converting to Judaism before marrying as Cohen is Jewish. In the past, Fisher was also engaged to Darren Day. Fisher has made FHM magazine’s list of the 100 Sexiest Women in the World twice. The first time was in 1997 when she was ranked #35 and the second time in 2003 where she ranked at #26. In early 2007 Isla, and fiance Sacha, announced that they were expecting the birth of their first baby in late 2007 and on October 19, 2007, Fisher gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Olive, in Los Angeles. In February 2009 Isla starred in the movie adaption of the book Confessions of a Shopaholic alongside Hugh Dancy, Kristin Scott Thomas, John Goodman and Joan Cusack. In the film, Fisher played a college graduate who works as a financial journalist in New York City to support her shopping addiction.
