Jaime King was born on April 23, 1979, in Omaha, Nebraska. When King was a child, her parents gave her the emasculated nick-name James, and she is sometimes credited as James King. King also went by Jamie King during her early modeling years, as her agency represented another Jaime. King was discovered at her graduation fashion show by a New York model agent, and she then set off for the Big Apple to pursue modeling professionally. King had to sacrifice her schooling to model, and later took her GED via a correspondence course.
By age fifteen, King had already appeared in top fashion magazines Vogue, Mademoiselle, Allure, and Seventeen; followed by Glamour and Harper's Bazaar by age sixteen. King also stalked the catwalk, modeling for such lines as Chanel and Christian Dior. By her late teens, King was at the top of her career, but also suffering from an addiction to heroin and alcohol. Around this time, King was also mourning the loss of her boyfriend, who died of a kidney ailment brought on from heroin abuse at age twenty-one.
After getting treatment for substance abuse, King continued to reign on the runway, and also began co-hosting MTV's House of Style with Rebecca Romijn in 1998. Since then, she has appeared in advertisements for Bebe, Revlon, Cesare Paciotti, Express Jeans, Coach, Armani Exchange, and Matsuda. Most recently, in 2006, King was selected to be the new face of Jay-Z’s line, Rocawear.
In addition to modeling and hosting, King made her acting debut in the 1999 film, Happy Campers, which premiered at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival. Also in 2001, King landed a role in the film Blow, alongside Johnny Depp, Penélope Cruz, Paul Reubens, and Ray Liotta. Now hot in Hollywood, King was cast in war epic, Pearl Harbor that same year, in a star-studded cast including Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett, Kate Beckinsale, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jon Voight, Alec Baldwin, and Tom Sizemore.
2003 saw King landing a leading in Bulletproof Monk alongside Chow Yun-Fat and Seann William Scott; followed by the Wayans’ comedy White Chicks in 2004, starring Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans playing two white girls.
King has also starred on the small screen, in such series as The O.C. With Peter Gallagher, Rachel Bilson, and Mischa Barton. Most recently, King has starred on the 2006 comedy series, The Class, with John Ritter’s son, Jason Ritter.
King has been romantically linked to Kid Rock, as well as Sean Lennon, although she denied the latter on the Howard Stern Show. She was also rumored to be dating Jake Gyllenhaal in 2001, and has most recently been linked to fellow actor, Bradley Cooper.
In her spare time, King enjoys surfing and listening to Britney Spears, The Wu-Tang Clan, Rilo Kiley, Kate Joy, and Hot Hot Heat. She also starred in a music video for Gavin Degraw’s song "Chariot" as well as Filter's song "Take a Picture."
King currently lives in Los Angeles, California; and has aspirations to become a writer or photographer.
