Jamie Lynn Spears, the younger sister of pop singing sensation Britney Spears, is a singer, actress, and performer who got her start on Nickelodeon, the popular children’s television network. Jamie Lynn has the star role in one of the most-watched children’s series ever, and as star of Zoey 101, Spears has a huge fan base amongst kids. Born Jamie Lynn Marie Spears on April 4, 1991, Spears was named for her father, Jamie, and her mother, Lynne. Jamie Lynn is the youngest of three children, with brother Bryan being the eldest. Spears was born in McComb, Mississippi, but grew up a short distance away in Kentwood, Louisiana.
She has been inundated with the entertainment industry since a very young age, when even as a baby she accompanied the family to New York while her sister pursued her career. As a child, Jamie Lynn was both athletic and charming and she enjoyed cheerleading. Jamie Lynn Spears first appeared in big sister’s television special, Total Britney Live, hosted by Carson Daly and featuring the Spears family along with Justin Timberlake.
In 2002, Spears starred in a Pepsi commercial and later in the film Crossroads, in which she played the younger version of Britney’s character, Lucy Wagner. In the film, Lucy Wagner’s father was played by Dan Aykroyd. The year 2002 also led to Spears landing her first spot on Nickelodeon’s All That, a sketch comedy and variety show in the tradition of Saturday Night Live, which has also featured Amanda Bynes, Britney Spears, Aaron Carter, and Denzel Whitaker.
After her All That run, Spears left the cast to star in her first sitcom, Zoey 101, a show aimed at tweens where Spears’s character, Zoey, is part of a group of girls who were the first to attend an all-boys school.
The show has gained mass popularity amongst its viewers and was nominated for an Emmy in 2005 and Spears has won two Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice awards for her role. Jamie Lynn Spears has been featured on E!, MTV, and Live with Regis and Kelly. She arranges her schedule to work around her schooling at Parklane Academy in McComb, which is near her hometown of Kentwood.
Besides her acting career, Jamie Lynn lends her athletic talents to the school’s softball team and cheerleading squad, along with gymnastics. She generally does her Zoey filming during the summer when school is out. As a busy teenager, enjoying all the things the typical teenage girl does, Spears also likes to have time for shopping and hanging out with her friends. She is also frequently photographed when out with big sister, Britney.
Jamie Lynn worked on an album of her own, which was released in 2007. It may be hard to shine in the shadow of such a wildly successful older sister, but with so much success at such a young age, it’s would have been hard telling where Jamie Lynn Spears might go.
News broke on December 18th 2007 that Jamie was three months pregnant by boyfriend, Casey Aldridge, the son of a Tennessee papermill worker whom Jamie reportedly met at church. The immediate future for Ms Spears's career hung in the balance with her employer Nickelodeon.
After months of making headline news in celebrity magazines for the next 6 months, with constant rumours and updates on her pregnancy, on June 19th 2008 Jamie Lynn, at the age of 17, gave birth to a baby daughter, Maddie Briann. The baby was born in Mississippi Southwest Regional Medical Center in McComb, Mississippi and weight 7 lb 11oz.
