Jane March Interestingly, actress and model Jane March (birth name Jane March Horwood) is most known for something she never even did. Although she did star as the young French girl in the 1992 film L’Amant (a.k.a. The Lover), largely considered a shocking, controversial, and scandalous motion picture, garnering her the moniker “The Sinner from Pinner,” March did not actually appear in any of the steamy sex scenes that made her famous—her five body doubles did! Jane March, a “Eurasian” with Vietnamese-Chinese roots (on her mother’s side) and English-Spanish roots (on her father’s side), was born on March 20, 1973 in Edgware, London, U.K. Before she launched her career in acting, March had been working for a model for several years, starting at the age of 14, when she won a “Become a Model” contest. By the time she was 15 years old, March was working as a print model. Her very first role remains her most controversial one and that for which she is most famous: the young girl in L’Amant, a film which featured graphic close-ups of detailed sex scenes, for which March used a total of five body doubles! Her co-star, Tony Leung Ka-Fai, reportedly used two body doubles for the steamy scenes.
As a result of the film, March was dubbed “The Sinner from Pinner”; Pinner is the name of the suburb in which March grew up, and also became the brunt of rumors that she was sexually involved with Ka-Fai and also that the movie’s love scenes were real. While these rumors proved to be untrue, the filmmakers saw the publicity they were bringing to the movie and thus avoided denying them for quite some time, much to March’s dismay. March went on to star opposite Bruce Willis in the sensual thriller Color of Night, which was released in 1994; during the filming the previous year, March and one of Color of Night’s producers (Carmine Zozzora) hooked up; two months later he proposed and the two were wed immediately (June 14, 1993)—March was only 20. Bruce Willis and Demi Moore—Willis’ wife at the time—were the witnesses. By 1997, the two were separated, officially divorcing in 2001. March went on to star in Tarzan and the Lost City (1998) as Jane, opposite Casper Van Dien; Provocateur; Dark Prince: The True Story of Dracula, alongside Rudolf Martin, Christopher Brand, Peter Weller, and Roger Daltrey; and Beauty and the Beast (2003), co-starring William Gregory Lee, Justin Whalin, and David Dukas. The actress has also continued to model, and as of 2004 has been the spokesmodel for Chopard jewelry. |
