Jane Seymour Bio

Jane Seymour

Jane Seymour was born as Joyce Penelope Wilhelmina Frankenberg, on February 15, 1951. She was born in Hayes, Hillingdon, England, to John Frankenberg and Mieke van Trigt. Her father is British and her mother is Dutch, and the couple raised Jane to speak both English and Dutch. Jane was also born with one green eye and the other brown. She has two younger sisters, Sally and Anne.

At the age of seventeen, she adopted the stage name Jane Seymour when she began to get serious about her acting career. Seymour’s first role as an extra was in the film Oh! What a Lovely War in 1969, directed by Richard Attenborough. Shortly after completing the film, Seymour married Attenborough’s son, Michael, in 1971. The marriage was brief, however, ending in divorce in 1973.

Jane’s first big film role was in the old war drama, The Only Way in 1970. She then landed a role on the successful TV show, The Onedin Line between 1972 and 1973. Seymour also appeared in the TV mini-series Frankenstein: the True Story and in the film, Young Winston, also directed by Richard Attenborough.

Jane’s breakthrough role that propelled her into superstardom was as a Bond girl in the James Bond film, Live and Let Die in 1973. James Bond was played by Roger Moore. Her next starring role was as Princess Farah in the film, Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger in 1977, co-starring Patrick Wayne. 1977 was also the year she married her second husband, Geoffrey Planer. They were divorced by 1978.

In 1978, Seymour continued her career in Battlestar Galactica, co-starring Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict, and Lorne Greene. The success of the film spawned a television series, which Seymour was a part of for the first couple episodes until the writers killed her off. For the rest of the 1970s and the 1980s Seymour’s career was a mix of television mini-series and a couple movies. Seymour’s last film in the 1980s was Lassiter in 1984, co-starring Tom Selleck. After that, she would not return to film until 2005.

In 1981 Jane married her third husband, David Flynn. The couple welcomed their first daughter, Katherine, into the world in 1981. In 1986 their son Sean was born, and the couple divorced in 1992.

Jane won the starring role in the successful TV series Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman from 1993 to 2001. This series became the show in which most people remember her. Through the hit series, she met her fourth husband, James Keach. They married in 1993. The couple has twin boys, Johnny and Kris, who were born in 1995. The boys were named after close family friends, Johnny Cash and Christopher Reeves, the latter is also the godfather.

In 2005, Jane returned to the big screen when she starred in Wedding Crashers as Christopher Walken’s wife. The film co-starred Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, and Isla Fisher. Also in February of 2005, Seymour officially became a U.S. citizen, at the downtown Los Angeles Convention Center.

Jane was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 1999, on New Year’s Eve. She has also committed her time to several charities, including becoming the international ambassador for Childhelp, USA.
