In 1988 his mom noticed an ad for an open call audition for the Mickey Mouse Club, in the newspaper. Thinking that this might be a good opportunity for JC, she gave him the choice of either going to school or going to the audition; he chose the audition. For the audition, JC sang "Right Here Waiting" by Richard Marx
Chasez began his career in entertainment when he was cast as a performer on The Mickey Mouse Club from 1990 until 1994, which aired on the Disney Channel. Fellow cast members on the show included Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Keri Russell, and Ryan Gosling. Many of the cast members went on to become very successful actors and musicians.
After the show was cancelled in 1994, JC and fellow cast member Justin Timberlake began writing songs and decided they wanted to form a singing group together. They added Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, and Lance Bass to the bill and dubbed themselves, ‘N Sync. In 1995, they began touring in Europe and became very popular there with their singles, "Tearin’ Up My Heart," and "I Want You Back." They did not return to the U.S. until 1997.
Upon returning, they realized few people in the States knew who they were. Their first performance was in a Wal-Mart parking lot. ‘N Sync quickly regained their popularity among the young teenage girl population and their debut album ended up selling more than 12 million copies. Their second album, No Strings Attached, sold 1.4 million copies in its first weekend.
In 2002, after the release of their fourth album, Celebrity, the group members decided to go their separate ways and work on their own solo projects. Although they have not officially split, there are no plans to come out with another ‘N Sync album. They did, however, come out with a greatest hits album in 2005.
To date, JC has come out with two solo albums. His first, Schizophrenia, was released in 2004 and contained the hit single, "Some Girls (Dance with Women)." His untitled second album will be released in the summer of 2007.
JC has not yet tied himself down into a long-term committed relationship. He was voted by People magazine as one of the Hottest 100 Bachelors in 2006. In the past he has been linked with Eva Longoria of Desperate Housewives; Tara Reid; Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas; and Bobbi Thomas, the editor of In Touch Weekly.
