Jean RenoVersatile actor Jean Reno was born Juan Moreno y Herrera Jimenez or Juan Moreno y Jederique Jimenez on July 30, 1948, in Casablanca, . A French actor of Spanish descent, Reno was inspired as a child by the screen presence of film legends such as John Wayne, Marlon Brando, and Jean Gabin. When he was twelve years old, Reno and his family moved to to escape ’s then fascist regime. In , Reno had to sign up with the national service in order to obtain French citizenship; he was recruited into the Army, where he was placed in charge of arts and entertainment. After a year of service, Reno moved to Paris to attend drama school.
Throughout the 70s, Reno landed steady work in French television and film. His tall, hulking stature caused him to be cast in villainous roles early on in his career; however, his acting range allowed him to eventually break free from being typecast, and he went on to play romantic comedy leads and action heroes. Two of the Luc Besson-directed French films which Reno starred in, The Big Blue (1988) and Léon, known as The Professional in the (1994), alongside Natalie Portman, garnered him recognition in the . This soon led to roles in American films such as French Kiss (1995) with Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline; Mission : Impossible (1996), with Tom Cruise; Ronin (1998) with Robert De Niro; and Godzilla (1998). Meanwhile, Reno continued to act in French films, such as The Visitors (1993) and The Crimson Rivers (2000).
The year 2006 has been big year for Reno , both personally and professionally. Reno starred opposite Steve Martin in the big-screen revival of the Pink Panther, as well as playing Captain Bezu Fache in the much-anticipated adaptation of The Da Vinci Code, also starring Tom Hanks and Sir Ian McKellen. On July 29th, 2006, Reno wed model and actress Zofia Borucka in southern . He has four children from two previous marriages: daughter, Sandra (born in 1978), and son, Mickael (born in 1980), with first wife, Geneviève. He also has a son, Tom (born in 1996), and daughter, Serena (born in 1998), with second wife, Nathalie Dyszkiewicz.
In addition to film, Reno has also been involved in the production of the popular PlayStation 2 game Onimusha 3: Demon Siege, featuring the protagonist, Jacques Blanc, whose character is based on Reno . He has also appeared in television ads for Toyota in , as well as appearing in television ads for UPS in and Europe , which feature a present-day Reno traveling back in time to re-visit himself at various stages in his life.
