Jeanne TripplehornAmerican film actress Jeanne Marie Tripplehorn was born June 10, 1963, in Tulsa, Oklahoma . With show business in her veins, Tripplehorn’s father, Tom Tripplehorn, was guitarist for the pop band Gary Lewis & the Playboys.
After graduating from Edison High School , Tripplehorn’s first gig in the public eye was at the Tulsa radio station KMOD. Going by the pseudonym Jeanie Summers, Tripplehorn served as their DJ and television personality.
She continued her education at both the University of Tulsa and Julliard School of Drama. Roles began coming her way as early as 1991 with The Perfect Tribute, which also starred Jason Robards and Campbell Scott.
Just one year later, Tripplehorn’s career exploded with a fortuitous casting in the crime thriller Basic Instinct. Even as a relative newcomer, Tripplehorn held her own, alongside silver screen giants Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone.
Rumored to have been engaged to Ben Stiller at one point in her life, it is no surprise her next gig was on his short-lived series The Ben Stiller Show.
By 1993, she found herself in the lead opposite Matthew Broderick in the romantic comedy The Night We Never Met. That same year, Robin Wright Penn was forced to drop her role in The Firm due to pregnancy. Tripplehorn was there to fill the vacant seat, and this time she acted beside Tom Cruise, Gene Hackman, Ed Harris, and Holly Hunter.
She teamed up again with longtime boyfriend Ben Stiller for a non-credited role in Reality Bites, which is widely recognized as launching 90s heartthrobs Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke. Tripplehorn’s career took a stumble when she signed on for her next role, though it had originally seemed like a golden opportunity. Acting alongside Kevin Costner and Dennis Hopper, Waterworld garnered vehement rejection from critics and viewers alike.
But with that unpleasantness behind her, Tripplehorn went on to bigger and better things. She first appeared in the box office romance Sliding Doors, with Gwyneth Paltrow, and then she took a role in Mickey Blues, Eyes opposite Hugh Grant and James Caan.
After her slew of successful big budget films, Tripplehorn turned her attention to independent and experimental cinema. In 2000, she starred in Steal This Movie, with Vincent D’Onofrio, Janeane Garofalo, and Kevin Pollak. In the same year, she starred in Timecode, the unique and edgy film, in which the screen was divided into four simultaneous, improvised one take storylines. Loved by some and hated by others, it was something that had never been done before.
Tripplehorn can currently be seen on the television series Big Love, with Bill Paxton and Chloë Sevigny.
Since 2000, Tripplehorn has been married to fellow actor Leland Orser with whom she has one child. YUDDY |
