Jeff Foxworthy Bio

Jeff Foxworthy

Jeff Foxworthy’s famous tagline "You might be a redneck if…" launched him into comedic fame and led to one of the best-selling comedy albums of all time. Though Foxworthy didn’t always have a place in the public limelight, this southern born stand up comedian has achieved fame and fortune with his fresh and funny comedy routines aimed at the working class American.

Jeff Foxworthy was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 6, 1958. He graduated from Hapeville High School and went on to attend Georgia’s Institute of Technology where he graduated in 1979. Following in the footsteps of his own father, he went to work at IBM upon graduation from Georgia Tech. In true truth or dare fashion, Foxworthy appeared on stage at Atlanta comedy club on a dare from friends and co-workers. The truth of the matter was Foxworthy had talent and he won the Great Southern Laugh-Off at the Punch Line Comedy Club in 1984.

Foxworthy’s stand-up comedy career had begun and his first album, Live, was released in 1990. However, it wasn’t until he released his second album, You Might Be a Redneck If…, in 1993 that he saw great success. The album, based off and expanded from his previous same-titled book, topped the comedy charts and sold over 3 million copies. Foxworthy became an American household name and his tagline became one of the biggest fads of the decade.

In 1995, Jeff Foxworthy starred in his own sitcom based on his stand-up routines. The Jeff Foxworthy Show aired for one season on ABC before it was cancelled. NBC tried picking up the show for a second season, but again it was cancelled. Though the show didn’t fair well, Foxworthy’s career was by no means over.

Having established himself as a successful comedian, Foxworthy, alongside fellow comedians Bill Engvall, Larry the Cable Guy, and Ron White, launched the Blue Collar Comedy Tour in January of 2000. The comedy quartet embarked on what would become a three year tour, extending well beyond the original plan of twenty shows due to huge popularity and sell-out crowds. At the end of the tour, Foxworthy tried his hand at television once again.

In 2004, Foxworthy started and produced a new show called Blue Collar TV that aired on the WB Television Network and Comedy Central. Being reduced to a trio without White, Foxworthy, Engvall, and Larry brought their redneck antics to television in the style fans had become accustomed to. The show was cancelled in late 2005. However, Foxworthy started another new show in 2006, Foxworthy’s Big Night Out, which aired on CMT.

Jeff Foxworthy was the guest of honor at Comedy Central's Roast of Jeff Foxworthy in 2005. The roastmasters were of course his Blue Collar comrades, and he was roasted by attendees Lisa Lampanelli, Denis Leary, Colin Quinn,Jay Mohr, and others.

In addition to many live, sold-out shows and television shows, Jeff Foxworthy has recorded ten comedy albums and has written his own Redneck Dictionary, among other books. He is married to Pamela Gregg and they have two daughters together. Both his wife and his children are mentioned frequently in his stand-up routines. Foxworthy recently voiced the animated character Lyle, in Disney’s Fox and the Hound 2. He is currently hosting the TV game show Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?
