John Cena Biography John Cena, sometimes known as the Marky Mark of wrestling, is a six-foot-one Italian rapping wrestler who made his debut into the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in 2002 against Kurt Angle. He was born John Felix Anthony Cena, on April 23, 1977, in West Newbury, Massachusetts, and is the second oldest of five brothers. John graduated from Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts, with a degree in exercise physiology and movement studies. While he was in college, he played football. He then pursued a career as a bodybuilder. When this didn’t turn out to be as successful as he hoped it would be, he followed his father’s (whose name is also John Cena) footsteps and went into the wrestling profession.
John started wrestling training in 2000 with the California-based Ultimate Pro Wrestling (UPW) training center. While in training, John created the character The Prototype. Cena's first televised WWE match was inspired by Vince McMahon's speech to WWE's rising stars and in answer to an open challenge by Kurt Angle on June 27, 2002. When John signed on with the WWE in 2002 he was a good wrestler, but didn’t have any characteristics that made him stand out. The WWE wanted him to have a special and exciting feature so they turned him into a rapper. The fans didn’t like this initially, especially since he did his first rap performance while wearing a Vanilla Ice costume. But the fans eventually came around because they were so entertained by the clever raps John created about other wrestlers. In 2004 John won the WWE United States Championship. It was during this time that he created his very own championship belt with a front plate that had a sparkling red and blue background with the letters U.S. in big white letters in the spinning center plate. At the 2005 WrestleMania, John beat reigning champion John Bradshaw Layfield (JBL) and won the WWE title. John Cena is as productive in the recording studio as he is in the wrestling ring. Several of his rap tracks can be found on WWE soundtrack albums like the WWE entrance song, “Basic Thugonomics.” (This also earned him another nickname, Dr. of Thugonomics.)
In 2005, he released his debut album, You Can’t See Me, which also featured his entrance theme song, “The Time is Now.” The first song on the album, “Bad, Bad Man” was made into a music video that’s a parody of the popular 1980s television show The A-Team. He also starred in the 2001 reality television series Manhunt, where contestants were hunted with paintballs. The show caused some controversy because many scenes of the reality show were re-shot to enhance the drama, and some contestants read from scripts. On October 13, 2006, he starred in his first movie, The Marine, along side Robert Patrick and Kelly Carleson, produced by WWE Films and distributed to theaters by 20th Century Fox. John Cena currently lives in Tampa, Florida. Let us know of updates to the John Cena biography at editor@yuddy.com |
