John Corbett Biogrpahy
Mention the name Aiden and most women will instantly remember the handsome, long suffering boyfriend of Carrie Bradshaw of Sex and the City. But use the actor’s real name and quite possible one would be met with a blank look.
John Corbett was born on May 9th 1962 in Wheeling, West Virginia to a father with the same name, John Joseph.
John’s early education took place at Wheeling Central Catholic High School and Cerritos College in Norfolk, California. John was raised a catholic until he reached adulthood, at which time he became a born again Christian.
Corbett’s early acting career saw him as the hippie styled boyfriend of Karen Arnold, played by Olivia d'Abo, in the first season of The Wonder Years in 1988, which also starred a young David Schwimmer, of Friends fame, and Danica McKellar.
John’s next big role came in the form of Chris Stevens in the TV series Northern Exposure which ran from 1990 until 1995.
In 1996 Corbett landed a role in a true story based on the murders of a husband and wife and their youngest son, The Morrison Murders, when the two other sons are left to cope with their loss, but the local sheriff begins to suspect that one of the brothers committed the crime, and must convince the other, John, to help him discover the truth. The movie is frequently run on the Life Time Movie (LMN) channel in the USA.
But probably John’s best known, and best loved character to date, is that of Aiden Shaw, the lovable, sensitive, sweet, good-natured furniture designer and persistent boyfriend of Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Carrie in Sex and the City. John played the role of Carrie’s boyfriend until he finally ended the relationship realizing Carrie could not commit to him in marriage.
In 2002 once again John landed the role of a sweet natured guy as the boyfriend, and then husband, of Nia Vardalos in My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
Corbett appeared in Serendipity with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale and played the role of a music teacher in Raise Your Voice, which starred Hilary Duff. He had a cameo role as Ken Roloff in Dinner Rush in 2000. Additionally, Corbett starred in another 2007 Lifetime Television film, Montana Sky, and co-stars as a corrupt LAPD vice squad member in Street Kings in 2008.
Along with his acting career Corbett has an interest in music and in 2006 her released a full-length, self-titled country music album and went on tour that year to promote the album. Its only single, Good to Go reached a peak of #43 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. In addition, Corbett was featured as a primary actor in Trisha Yearwood's music video of her 2008 single This Is Me You're Talking To. He also does the voice over work in commercials for the Applebee's restaurant chain.
Corbett has taken the male lead in the upcoming Showtime original series, The United States of Tara opposite Toni Collette and premiers on January 19 2009.
In life, John himself has never committed to marriage but has been in a long term relationship with Playboy cover girl and actress, Bo Derek for many years.
