JoJo JoJo is an up-and-coming pop artist who had two albums under her belt before reaching the age of sixteen. She is currently promoting her second album, The High Road, which was released on October 16, 2006. Joanna Noelle Levesque, also known as JoJo, was born on December 20, 1990, in Vermont. She is of Native American, Irish, Polish, and French descent. JoJo was initially raised in a one bedroom apartment in Foxborough, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston, to Joel and Diana Levesque. Her father was a Blues singer and her mother worked as a house cleaner and also enjoyed singing in the church choir. By listening to and imitating her mother singing hymns, JoJo taught herself how to sing at the age of two.
After her parents divorced when JoJo was four, she went to live with her mother in New Jersey. While in New Jersey she attended a public middle school for seventh and eighth grade. JoJo began her professional life at a very young age when she landed a guest spot on the show Kids Say the Darndest Things: On the Road in Boston, where she sang “Respect” by Aretha Franklin. The show’s host, Bill Cosby, was impressed. From there she went on to perform on The Oprah Winfrey Show and Maury Povich's show Maury. From there, JoJo received attention from record producer Vincent Herbert. He contacted her and asked her to audition for him. After listening to her audition, JoJo was signed to Blackground Records and began recording under producers such as The Underdogs.
JoJo released her self-titled debut album in 2004, which peaked at #4 on the pop charts. All of her singles became hits and she became the youngest solo artist In America to ever have a #1 single, with her hit “Leave (Get Out).” She then became the youngest nominee for a MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist. The album went on to sell 1.5 million copies in the United States alone. Following the debut of her album, JoJo was asked by First Lady Laura Bush to perform at the Christmas in Washington special in 2004, which was hosted by Dr Phil. She was also included on the charity single, “Come Together Now,” whose proceeds went to benefit the 2004 Asian Tsunami. Besides developing her music career to new heights, JoJo is also working on her acting career. In March of 2006, she starred in Aquamarine, alongside Emma Roberts and Sara Paxton. Her second feature film was RV in 2006, starring Robin Williams. JoJo currently lives in New Jersey with her mother where she is tutored. She has also recently ended her first public relationship with soccer star Freddy Adu, whom she dated for just over one year. YUDDY |
