Jon Bon Jovi

John Francis Bongiovi was born on March 2, 1962, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. His mother, Carol Sharkey, was one of the original Playboy Bunnies and a U.S. Marine. His father, John, was a hairstylist.

Jon attended Sayreville War Memorial High School located in Parlin, New Jersey and after graduating high school he worked as a janitor at Power Station recording studio which was owned by his cousin, Tony Bongiovi. After he was done working for the day he would record his own material in the studio. Later, in 1999, he released an album based on these recordings. He changed his name to Jon Bon Jovi at the request of the first record company who signed him.

He formed his band, Bon Jovi, in 1983 with friends from high school in New Jersey as original band mates. The hair metal band began their touring career opening for the band Scandal in 1984. Their first album, Bon Jovi, was released in January of 1984 and went gold. To date, Bon Jovi has sold more than 100 million records, has recorded nine albums, and brought out four compilation CDs.

Jon has also released two solo CDs. His first was Blaze of Glory in 1990 and his second was Destination Anywhere in 1997.

In 1989, Bon Jovi married his high school sweetheart Dorothea Hurley in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the famous Graceland Chapel. They have four children together, named Stephanie Rose, born in 1995; Jesse James Louis, born in 1995; Jacob Hurley, born in 2002; and Romeo Jon, born in 2004. Today, Jon and his family reside in Middletown, New Jersey.

After becoming an accomplished and successful musician singing with the Jon Bon Jovi band, Jon made the transition to acting. He has had roles in several films, including U-571 in 2000, starring Matthew McConaughey, Bill Paxton, and Harvey Keitel; Cry Wolf in 2005, co-starring Julian Morris, Lindy Booth, and Kristy Wu; and Pay it Forward in 2000, starring Helen Hunt, Kevin Spacey, and Haley Joel Osment.

Jon has also had recurring roles in a couple television shows such as Ally McBeal, alongside co-stars Calista Flockhart, Lucy Lui, Portia de Rossi, and Courtney Thorne Smith. He also worked on Sex and the City with Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristen Davis, Cynthia Nixon, and Kim Cattrall.

On top of being an artist, Jon has proven himself to be an astute businessman. In 2004, Jon and fellow band mate Richie Sambora became the co-founders and co-owners of the Philadelphia Soul of the American Football League. He has appeared in several television commercials promoting the team.

Jon also supports several charities; he works closely with the Special Olympics, the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
