Jonas Brothers Biography Popular American boy band the Jonas Brothers first came together in Wyckoff, New Jersey. The members are Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Nick Jonas—all of which are biological brothers. Before the trio reached the frenzied level of success they currently enjoy, Nick was a six year old singing in his local barber shop. Immediately evident that he possessed a talent for the craft, Nick was directed to a business manager. Just one year later, he was performing in venues as renowned as Broadway. Finding great success with productions such as Annie Get Your Gun, Beauty and the Beast, and Les Misérables, Nick’s career really took off when he penned the song “Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer).” Released to Christian radio stations, the song became a hit.
Shortly after, Joe also began appearing on Broadway with La Boheme from director Baz Lurhmann. Catching the attention of the right people, the brothers finally earned a contract under Columbia. Officially dubbing themselves the Jonas Brothers, their first gigs were opening for big name stars such as Kelly Clarkson, the Backstreet Boys, Jesse McCartney, and others. Their debut album, entitled It’s About Time, came in 2006. They secured their first hit single with “Mandy.” It began earning attention in late 2005 and early 2006. “Mandy” found additional exposure when it appeared in the Aquamarine soundtrack. The 2006 family comedy starred Emma Roberts, JoJo Levesque, Arielle Kebbel, and Sara Paxton. Dropped from Columbia in 2007, they earned a new contract with Hollywood Records. Under this new management, they released the self-titled Jonas Brothers in mid-2007. Proving popular, the album shot to number five on the Hot 200 charts. The album contained singles “Hold On” and “S.O.S.” Increasing their exposure, the band made a guest appearance on Hannah Montana with teen queen Miley Cyrus. They also appeared on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.
With their increased popularity, they undertook a new tour in early 2008. The “Look Me in the Eyes Tour” saw the young band performing several singles from their new album, A Little Bit Longer. Working with iTunes, singles such as “Burnin’ Up,” “Pushin’ Me Away,” and “Tonight” were pre-released. Each song peaked at number one on iTunes. Most recently, they are set to open for Avril Lavigne in her “Best Damn Tour.” Others may recognize the band for their involvement with Disney’s Camp Rock. They also developed enough of a following to warrant the reality series entitled Jones Brothers: Living the Dream. In addition to their music, the band is known for their outspoken Christian values. They have publicly stated that they abstain from alcohol and drugs and are waiting until marriage to have sex. Actively involved in charities, the band grossed $12 million in 2007 alone. They donated 10% to Change for the Children Foundation. |
