|
Jorja (pronounced "Georgia") Fox is an American actress who plays Sara Sidle, the sharp, no-nonsense and sometimes brash investigator in the popular television series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. She has had this role since Friday, October 13, 2000 and it is reported that she’s paid $100,000 USD per episode.
Born on July 7, 1978, in New York, New York, Jorja began acting when she was five, as the starring role as the Rooster in the children’s classic Chicken Little. She grew up in Melbourne Beach, a small coastal town in Florida, to Montreal-born parents.
While studying at Melbourne High School she won a modeling contest at a local mall. Although she had only completed two years at the school, winning the contest encouraged her to move back to her birthplace in New York to pursue an acting career. She formally studied the craft of acting at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York, specifically under the tutelage of veteran actor William Hickey.
Sara went on to star in several independent films such as Memento in 2000, with Guy Pierce and Carrie Anne Moss; Tiara Tango in 1999, with Jean Smart and Robert Wagner; and The Hungry Bachelors Club in 1999.
She entered the acting limelight in 1996 when she appeared as the medical intern Maggie Doyle in the NBC television series ER. On April 30, 1997, she played an uncredited role in the coming-out episode of Ellen. In 1999 she played the recurring Secret Service Agent Gina Toscano on NBC’s series The West Wing.
In addition to her TV and movie roles, Jorja is also a musician and songwriter. She wrote and performed the song "Lullabye," which was featured in the 1998 movie Traveling Companion.
In 2003 she was ranked #80 in Stuff magazine’s list of 103 Sexiest Women.
In July 2004, Jorja was fired from her role as Sara in CSI for refusing to sign documentation stating that she would return to work. It’s reported that she, along with co-star George Eads, wanted more money. Jorja returned to work within days of the firing but didn’t receive a pay raise.
Jorja lives in Los Angeles with her three pets: Ali (Boxer), Rumplestiltskin (cat), and Sid Poitier (an aggressive male cat formerly named Sid Vicious). She is an animal lover (who once worked in a kennel), dedicated vegetarian, and aspiring vegan who has worked with PETA to promote vegetarianism. Both the characters she portrayed in ER and CSI are also vegetarians. Jorja believes in true love, but is terrified of marriage. She’s been quoted as saying, "Just to think about it gives me heart palpitations. It's like I can't breathe. It sends shivers down my spine!" YUDDY |
