Judy Greer American comedic actress Judy Greer has been a character actor and sometimes lead for just over a decade. During that run, she has gained the largest following for her work on The Wedding Planner and Arrested Development. Continuing to find work, she is currently the star of a new television series, Miss/Guided. Judith Laura Evans, known popularly as Judy Greer, was born July 20, 1975 in Livonia, Michigan. Attending Winston Churchill High School, Greer was a graduate of their Creative and Performing Arts Program. She went on to pursue her secondary education at DePaul University. She graduated with a degree in theater in 1997. Before stepping in front of the camera, Greer focused her energies not on acting but on dance. She studied Russian ballet intensively for ten years. She eventually decided, however, that acting was where her passion truly lay, and she switched her focus to that pursuit. In 1997, she made her onscreen debut with a one-episode appearance on the television program Early Edition with lead Kyle Chandler. She got her foot in the film industry with independent fodder like Stricken opposite Jamie Kennedy and bigger budget productions like Kissing a Fool with David Schwimmer, Jason Lee, Mili Avital, and Bonnie Hunt.
Perennially playing a supporting role, Greer won a more substantial part in the 1999 black comedy Jawbreaker with Rose McGowan, Rebecca Gayheart, Julie Benz, Tatyana Ali, and Pam Grier. She took a slew of her characteristic bit parts for the next two years making appearances in notable films such as Three Kings, The Big Split, What Planet Are You From? and What Women Want. But it was 2001 that proved a big year for her career when she was cast opposite Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey in the bubbly romantic comedy The Wedding Planner. This transitioned nicely into a recurring role as Kitty Sanchez on the offbeat comedy series Arrested Development. Her character appeared for ten episodes over a two-year span. During her time on the show, she appeared beside cast regulars Portia de Rossi, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, David Cross, Jeffrey Tambor, and Ron Howard as narrator. Although the show was prematurely cancelled after three seasons, it had a loyal enough following that Greer’s career benefited greatly from her time onset. She subsequently landed a role opposite Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo in 13 Going on 30 and a part in M Night Shyamalan’s The Village with Joaquin Phoenix, Adrien Brody, William Hurt, Sigourney Weaver, and Brendan Gleeson.
Recognizing that her greatest successes had come from comedic television roles, Greer returned to these roots with the short-lived but well-received series Love Monkey with Thomas Cavanagh, Christopher Wiehl, and Larenz Tate. Critics and audiences were enchanted with its quirky charm, but the show was axed after only one season in 2006. More recently, she took the lead in the new comedic television series Miss/Guided. Picked up by ABC midseason, it remains to be seen if the show will gain an audience. In addition to her new series, she has also been keeping busy with film projects such as 27 Dresses with leads Katherine Heigl, James Marsden, Malin Akerman, Melora Hardin, and Edward Burns. She is currently in post-production for the comedy Visioneers. In her personal life, there have been rumors of a romantic connection with Nick Thomas. |
