Born on July 11, 1970, in Springfield, Ohio, Justin is one of five children of Irish and German American parents, John and Pam Chambers. He has a twin brother named Jason, an older brother, and two older sisters.
While on vacation one year in Paris, he was discovered by a modeling scout in the subway. He landed a contract to represent Calvin Klein in a fragrance campaign. It seems that modeling gave Justin the desire to act, so he moved to New York and studied at H.B. Studios for four years. His training landed him roles in several off-Broadway plays, as well as a few roles in different television shows, including his big break role in 1995 in NBC’s daytime soap Another World. He acted in the soap operas for four months.
In 1996 he appeared opposite Lolita Davidovich in Harvest of Shame and the following year he acted with Jennifer Garner in CBS’s Rose Hill. Justin made his big screen debut as a rich WASP in 1999’s Liberty Heights, a Barry Levinson drama. In 2001 he acted alongside Catherine Deneuve and Mena Suvari in The Musketeer, and co-starred with Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Lopez in The Wedding Planner.
While the late 1990s and even the early 2000s were a booming time in Justin’s acting career, his career slowed down for several years until 2005. He was described as "part James Dean and part Marlon Brando" in 1998’s Harper’s Bazaar magazine, but such glowing praise didn’t help his acting career much after 2001. The only meaningful exposure he received between the years 2001 to 2005 was his supporting role alongside Uma Thurman and Gena Rowlands in HBO’s Hysterical Blindness in 2002.
In 2005 he started getting roles in movies again such as Southern Bells, opposite Anna Faris and Fred Weller, and as obsessed police detective, Sergeant Matt Parish, in the thriller The Zodiac, with Rory Culkin. Justin’s biggest 2005 comeback was landing the role of arrogant Dr Alex Karev in Grey’s Anatomy.
Justin Chambers married his wife, Keisha, a former model agency booker, in 1993. The two met while he was modeling Calvin Klein. They currently live in New York and have five children together: Isabella, Eva, Jackson, and twins Maya and Kaila.
