Katherine HeiglActress Katherine Heigl was born on November 24 1978, in Washington, D.C. Katherine was born to Paul Heigl, a German American accountant; and Nancy, an Irish American; and she raised a Mormon. Shortly after Katherine was born, her family moved to New Canaan, Connecticut. In 1986, Katherine’s older brother, Jason, died of injuries sustained in a car accident. The tragic event was a strong catalyst for Katherine’s decision to support organ donation.
At nine years old, one of Katherine’s aunts decided to photograph Katherine, and, with her parents’ consent, sent the photos to modeling agencies which then signed Katherine on as a child model. Katherine began landing magazine ads and television commercials, including one for Cheerios. Shortly after, she made her silver screen debut in That Night in 1992. In 1994, Katherine was cast in the comedy My Father The Hero; at the same time, she juggled attending New Canaan High School and modeling. Meanwhile, her parent’s marriage ended. After Katherine graduated from high school in 1979, she and her mother moved into a four-bedroom home in Malibu Canyon, Los Angeles, and her mother became her manager.
In 1995, Katherine appeared opposite Steven Seagal in Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, while continuing to model in magazines such as Seventeen. The following year, Katherine starred in Disney's made-for-television film Wish Upon a Star. In 1998, Katherine starred alongside Peter Fonda in the Shakespearian play The Tempest, set during the American Civil War. Also that year, Katherine switched gears to star in the horror film Bride of Chucky.
In 1999, Katherine graced the small-screen in the role of Isabel Evans on the science fiction TV drama Roswell. At the same time, she continued to work on films such as indie movie 100 Girls in 2001; and horror flick Valentine in 2001, also starring David Boreanaz and Denise Richards.
In 2001, Katherine was cast in made-for-TV movie Ground Zero, based on the best-selling James Mills novel about nuclear terrorism, The Seventh Power. However, after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York City, for which Katherine contributed Red Cross public service announcements, the movie release was pushed back, and the movie was eventually released in 2003 under the new title Critical Assembly.
The year 2003 was busy for Katherine. She starred in three made-for-TV movies: Evil Never Dies, Love Comes Softly, and MTV’s modern adaptation of Emily Brontë's classic novel Wuthering Heights. Also in 2003, Katherine starred alongside Johnny Knoxville in The Ringer, a comedy that was not released until December 2005.
In 2005, Katherine played the role of Romy in the prequel to the 1997 film Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, titled Romy and Michele: In the Beginning. Also in 2005, Katherine landed her breakthrough role playing Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens on popular ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomy. Starring alongside Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh, Patrick Dempsey, Isaiah Washington, Kate Walsh, Justin Chambers, TR Knight, and Chandra Wilson. Katherine plays a surgical intern at Seattle Grace Hospital.
In May 2006, Katherine was named #19 on the Sexiest Woman in the World list by the readers of FHM magazine. In June 2006, she became engaged to singer Josh Kelley. YUDDY |
