Kelly Rowan With a recognizable face but not instantly recognizable name, this Canadian born actress has appeared in many well received American shows, movies and has had a long running role in the O.C. Kelly Rowan was born in Ottowa, Ontario, Canada on October 26th 1965 Kelly attended Toronto’s Northern Secondary School and after graduating went on to study at the University of Western Ontario. While at university Kelly began her modeling career in an effort to earn cash to supplement her student income. When she was in University, studying for a degree in English Literature, she found the magic of acting. Kelly had to make a tough decision whether to leave University in order to join the cast of ‘Mount Royal’, and the decision was made even tougher since she was pretty close to graduation. However, the filming was to take place in Paris and she couldn't resist that, so, at the age of 20 she left university. Afterwards, she continued studying acting in the British American Drama Academy in London.
When she returned to America, she moved to New York to attend the Neighborhood Playhouse. Kelly’s acting career began taking off in 1980, when she gained the notice of the producers of series such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, ‘Dallas’, where her character Dana acted alongside Larry Hagman’s J.R Ewing and Patrick Duffy and ‘Growing Pains’ which also starred Leonardo DiCaprio. After moving to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of acting, Kelly’s first major film role came in 1991 when she was chosen for a role in Steven Spielberg's movie "Hook" playing Peter Pan's mother. At this time she found herself starring along side many of Hollywood’s greatest actors including Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams, UK singer Phil Collins and Academy Award winning actress, Julia Roberts.
In 1993 She won a Gemini award for her work in the TV-movie ‘Adrift’ which saw Kelly starring with Kate Jackson and Kenneth Welsh. By this time Kelly was playing with many famous names such as Julianne Moore and Sylvester Stallone in ‘Assassins’ in 1995, and with Samuel L Jackson in the movie ‘187 ‘ in 1997. Rowan’s other memorable movies include ‘The Gate’ with Stephen Dorff, ‘Three to Tango’ alongside Matthew Perry, Neve Campbell and Dylan McDermott, ‘Da Vinci’s Inquest’ in 1998 which also starred Ian Tracy and in 2001, ‘A Girl Thing’ with Stockard Channing, Mia Farrow and Linda Hamilton. In 2002, Rowan guest-starred in three episodes of ‘Boomtown’, playing "Marian", the deceived wife of David McNorris played by Neal McDonough.In 2002 Kelly was cast as Kirsten Cohen on the new FOX program, The O.C., alongside Peter Gallagher, Tate Donovan, Adam Brody and Melinda Clarke, with whom she appeared on an episode of CSI.Rowan’s character became a popular, main popular role in the O.C. and during the time she played a recovering alcoholic she won the Prism Award, for which she had already been nominated the previous year but failed to win. Her friendship with her on screen husband, Peter Gallagher, extended to her starring in the music video to ‘Still I Long For Your Kiss’ which was a track taken from his album, ‘7 Days in Memphis’ which he released in 2005.On June 20, 2007 it was announced that Rowan had become engaged to the Canadian billionaire David Thomson. Thompson has been married twice before and is on the Forbes list as the 10th richest man in the world as the C.E.O. of the publishing conglomerate, Thompson Corp which recently bought out the London based Reuters Group Plc for a $17 million deal. Thompson is fifty years old and will be the first husband for Kelly. Prior to marrying Thompson, Rowan will be on the small screen again on June 24th in the Lifetime movie ‘In God's Country’, which she also executive-produced. Another role rumoured to be in the pipeline for Kelly is the romantic comedy ‘Jack and Jill vs. the World’, costarring Freddie Prinze Jr. and Taryn Manning. ABB |
