|
Ken Shamrock, also known as "The Most Dangerous Man in the World," is one of America’s favorite former UFC fighters and WWE celebrities. With a troubled childhood behind him, Ken Shamrock is now a UFC Hall of Famer, author, instructor, and subject matter expert in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program.
Born Kenneth Wayne Kilpatrick on February 11, 1964, in Macon, Georgia, Ken changed his name to Shamrock to pay homage to Bob Shamrock. Bob Shamrock was the owner of Shamrock Ranch, a home for troubled boys where Ken gained a new lease on life as a teenage boy after being abandoned as a child.
Shamrock began training as a professional wrestler in 1988 and made his professional wrestling debut in 1990 at the South Atlantic Pro Wrestling promotion under the ring name Wayne Shamrock. Shamrock traveled to Japan to compete in the Universal Wrestling Federation and it was there that he received an introduction to the mixed martial arts. For the next few years, Shamrock competed in both professional wrestling and the UFC.
In 1997, Shamrock made his WWF debut under his new ring name Ken Shamrock, billed as "The Most Dangerous Man in the World." Shamrock was under a three-year contract with the WWF and enjoyed a successful career in the organization. He returned to mixed martial arts in 2000, losing three UFC events to Tito Ortiz, and winning one UFC event against Kimo Leopoldo.
Rivals in the ring, Shamrock and Ortiz coached the third season of Ultimate Fighter, the reality television show based on the mixed martial arts style of fighting, with the prize being a UFC contract. Season three’s finale was June 27, 2006. On October 10, 2006, Shamrock fought Ortiz again in UFC Fight Night 7 with an outcome of a loss by TKO in the first round. He did not commit to whether he will fight again.
Shamrock has penned two books, Beyond the Lion’s Den and Inside the Lion’s Den. The Lion’s Den is a fighting school where Shamrock is head trainer. Both his books discuss the life and the techniques of a fighter. The Lion’s Den also sells its own clothing and gear. Shamrock has also appeared in the movies Champions, Virtuosity, and Scarecrow Gone Wild; and the television show That '70s Show, which also starred Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Danny Masterson, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, and Wilmer Valderrama.
Shamrock has four children from his first marriage and three stepchildren from his second marriage. YUDDY |
