Kristin Kreuk Biography

Canadian actress Kristin Kreuk shot to stardom in 2001 when she landed roles on two television series, Edgemont and Smallville. Both proving hits, they remain her most noted work.

Kristin Laura Kreuk was born December 30, 1982 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Her parents are Peter Kreuk and Deanna Che, of Dutch and Chinese descent respectively. Both Peter and Deanna work as landscape architects.

Kreuk obtained her initial education from Eric Hamber Secondary School. In addition to her regular schooling, Kreuk also trained competitively in gymnastics. Scoliosis, however, forced her to quit by the eleventh grade.

Fully set on attending college, Kreuk’s original plans included attending Simon Fraser University to study anything from psychology to forensic science to environmental science.

Plans changed, however, in 2001. In this year, she was approached by a casting director who wanted her for the role of Laurel Yeung in the newest teen soap opera, Edgemont. Having no prior acting experience, Kreuk was hesitant.

She was eventually convinced by her drama teacher, however, to audition. To her great surprise, she actually won the part.

Becoming a regular cast member on the show, Kreuk was with Edgemont until its cancellation in 2005. During her five seasons with the program, she shared the screen with Elana Nep, Grace Park, Micah Gardener, Sarah Lind, and others.

Transitioning into other simultaneous endeavors, Kreuk increased her visibility when she played the title role in the 2001 adaptation of Snow White with Miranda Richardson.

She also had a small role in the 2004 comedy EuroTrip. Relatively well received by its audience, it also featured Scott Mechlowicz, Jacob Pitts, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Matt Damon. The same year, she played Tenar in Earthsea. Although not as acclaimed as director Robert Lieberman had hoped, it did draw noted actors such as Shawn Ashmore, Isabella Rossellini, and Danny Glover.

But Kreuk is best known for her work with the WB series Smallville. Joining the cast in 2001, she plays love interest Lana Lang to a young Clark Kent (played by Tom Welling). Other cast regulars include Michael Rosenbaum, Allison Mack, Annette OToole, and others. Kreuk is currently with the show.

Her most recent film work was Partition in 2007 opposite Jimi Mistry, Neve Campbell, and John Light.

She is currently filming Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li. Slated for a 2009 release, it is also set to star Moon Bloodgood, Michael Clarke Duncan, Chris Klein, and Robin Shou.

Outside of acting, Kreuk has also made a name for herself as a model. Most notably, she is one of the many spokeswomen for Neutrogena. Other actresses to hold this title include Mandy Moore and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

In her personal life, she has been rumored to date Joe Rogan as well as Mark Hildreth.
