Kyle Chandler Kyle Martin Chandler is an Emmy-nominated American actor who grew up in Loganville, Georgia, a town of only 4,200 people. He grew up in a house with only one television station and spent most of his childhood watching old movies and acting out the same scenes in his backyard. Born on September 17, 1965, in Buffalo, New York, Chandler was educated at the University of Georgia where he majored in drama. In 1988 while at the university he met an ABC talent scout who got him his first major role as the Cleveland Indians right fielder Jeff Metcalf in Homefront. Before his first major role, Chandler had acted in small roles in shows like Home Fires Burning in 1989, China Beach in 1989, and eight episodes of Tour of Duty in 1990, where he played the role of Private William Griner. After Homefront, Chandler’s next major television role was as bar owner Gary Hobson in the CBS television series Early Edition. He played Hobson for ninety episodes from 1996 to 2000. In 1996 Chandler received the Saturn Award for Best Actor on Television for his portrayal of Hobson. In 2001 he landed the role of investment banker Jake Evans in the short-lived ABC comedy series What About Joan. In 2003 he took on his first bad guy role in another short-lived television series called The Lyons Den. He played the character Grant Rashton for five episodes, and got tips on how to act like a lawyer from his older brother who is a successful attorney in Houston, Texas. Chandler also had a brief role as Bruce Baxter in 2005’s King Kong.
In February of 2006 Chandler appeared as bomb squad leader Dylan Young in the two-part episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy called “It’s the End of the World” and “As We Know It.” Young ended up being killed in the episode by the bomb he’s diffusing. For his role as Young, Chandler received a nomination in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series category at the 58th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. After Grey’s Anatomy Chandler landed another role as Coach Eric Taylor in the NBC drama series Friday Night Lights, which piloted on October 3, 2006. By the end of the year he had appeared in twelve episodes of the show. Chandler is currently working on a thriller called The Kingdom, starring Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner, to be released sometime in 2007. Chandler has been married to television writer Katherine Kyle since 1995 and the couple have two daughters together: Sidney and Sawyer.
