Kyle MacLachlanKyle MacLachlan was born on February 22, 1959, in Yakima, Washington, where he graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1976. He then went on to attend the University of Washington where he obtained his degree in fine arts in 1982. He has two younger brothers and claims to be the direct descendant of Johann Sebastian Bach on his mother’s side. MacLachlan became well-known in Hollywood for his cleft chin.
Shortly after graduating from college, Kyle decided to pursue acting and moved to Hollywood, California. Kyle’s first appearance on film was in Dune in 1984, co-starring Francesca Annis and directed by David Lynch, whom Kyle has worked with extensively.
He worked with Lynch again on the ABC television series, Twin Peaks in 1990, co-starring Heather Graham, Lara Flynn Boyle, and Sherilyn Fenn. The show became one of his most successful to date and earned him a Golden Globe Award as well as a couple Emmy nominations. Kyle then starred in The Trial in 1993, based on the novel by Franz Kafka, playing the lead role of Josef K.
Other films MacLachlan has starred in include The Hidden in 1987, a sci-fi classic; The Doors in 1991, which starred Meg Ryan and Val Kilmer and was written and directed by Oliver Stone; and The Flintstones in 1994, co-starring John Goodman, Halle Berry, Rosie O’Donnell, Elizabeth Taylor, Rick Moranis, and Elizabeth Perkins. In 1995 MacLachlan starred in Showgirls with Elizabeth Berkley. The film was a total flop at the box office and is said to be the reason why Kyle’s career in film stalled throughout the rest of the 1990s.
More recently, Kyle has had a recurring role on the popular series Sex and the City, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, and Kim Cattrall where he played the husband of Kristin Davis’s character, Charlotte. He has also lent his voice to the video game Grand Theft Auto III.
Besides a successful career in film and television, MacLachlan has also starred in several plays on Broadway, including On an Average Day, opposite Woody Harrelson; The Caretaker, along with Patrick Stewart; and such Shakespeare plays as Romeo and Juliet and Henry V.
Kyle has continued his career in TV by starring in the short-lived show, In Justice in 2006. He is also scheduled to become a regular on the show Desperate Housewives, starring Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross, and Nicollette Sheridan. In 2004 he starred in Touch of Pink, resembling Carey Grant in the film.
MacLachlan married fashion publicist, Desiree Gruber, on April 20, 2002. The couple was engaged for two years before tying the knot. They married in Miami, Florida, which is Desiree's hometown. They currently live in Manhattan with their two dogs. The couple has showered their canines with much attention and has even created a website dedicated to them. In the past, Kyle has dated a variety of models and actresses including Lara Flynn Boyle and Laura Dern. He was also previously engaged to Linda Evangelista. YUDDY |
