Kylie Minogue

Australia’s sweetheart Kylie Minogue was born on May 28, 1968, in Melbourne, Austrailia. At just nine years old, Minogue kicked off her acting career in the Australian drama series Skyways. She eventually landed a starring role in children's series The Henderson Kids, before starring in the soap opera Neighbours, which began airing in the when Minogue joined the cast.

Due to her popularity on Neighbours, where she played Charlene, gilrfirend of Scott played by Jason Donovan, Minogue was asked to perform at an event along with other celebrities for charity. She chose to sing Little Eva's 1962 hit "The Loco-Motion," which was then sent to recording label Mushroom Records and yielded a surprise national hit and #1 1987 record, Loco-Motion. At that time, Mushroom Records had formed a business relationship with London hit-makers, Stock, Aitken and Waterman, who produced such 80s pop acts as Samantha Fox, Bananarama, and Rick Astley. After they expressed interest in the young talent, the trio penned the hit "I Should Be So Lucky," which became the second of six Australian #1's for Minogue and the first of five English #1's. Soon after, Minogue said goodbye to her Neighbours to devote more time to music.

In 1990 Minogue exerted more control over her public image with the single "Better the Devil You Know," for which she oversaw video concepts. On her fourth album, Let's Go to It in 1991, the singer pressed her independence further, insisting on lyrical input. Minogue cut loose from Stock, Aitken and Waterman for her next two albums; Kylie Minogue in 1994 and Impossible Princess in 1997 were both released on London dance label Deconstruction. Meanwhile, a romantic relationship began to blossom between Minogue and INXS singer Michael Hutchence, who encouraged her to experiment in the studio. Minogue also teamed up with fellow Aussie singer Nick Cave for the duet "Where the Wild Flowers Grow." The video for the song featured an opaque Minogue floating dead in the water.

In 2000 the Pet Shop Boys encouraged Minogue to switch to their label, Parlophone. The resulting album, Light Years, prepared Minogue for a major millennial comeback. In 2001, she released dance-infused Fever, which boasted the hypnotic "Can't Get You Out of My Head." Minogue was recognized with two Brit Awards in 2002 for Best International Female and Best International Album for Fever. Soon after, Fever was released in the United States, and "Can't Get You Out of My Head" became Minogue’s first U.S. hit in nearly fifteen years.

On May 17, 2005, during her Showgirl, The Greatest Hits tour, it was reported that Minogue had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer and would receive medical treatment in Melbourne. An intense period of media coverage followed – especially in Australia, where the country’s prime minister, John Howard, even issued a statement of support to the singer. Some of Minogue’s famous friends, such as Olivia Newton John, who is also a breast-cancer survivor, urged media and fans to respect the singer’s privacy.

In June of 2006, Minogue’s official website announced that she would resume her Showgirl tour in fall 2006. During her treatment, Minogue wrote a children's book titled The Showgirl Princess, about a girl's life in the spotlight.

The pain of three years of recovering from cancer and the break up of her relationship were soon forgotten on July 2nd 2008 when Kylie was invited to Buckingham Palace to receive her OBE (Order of the British Empire) from Prince Charles. This made the Australian song bird and Honorary Brit.
