Actor Lane Garrison is known for his one season-long role as David "Tweener" Apolskis on the relatively new dramatic series Prison Break, as well as for living with the Simpson family for a year, and for all of the drama surrounding his real-life car accidents in 2006.
Born May 23, 1980, in Dallas, Texas, Garrison grew up in a troubled home, suffered a strained relationship with his mother, and become a thief as a teenager. At age seventeen, he moved out and sought out Joe Simpson, the Garrison family minister as well as Jessica and Ashlee Simpson’s father and manager. He ended up living with the Simpsons for a year and changed his ways.
After high-school graduation from J.J. Pearce High School, Garrison moved from Texas to L.A. in order to pursue a career in acting. He first landed a gig in a backpack commercial, and soon moved on to the big screen with appearances in 4 Faces in 1999; Quality of Life in 2004, in which he took the lead role and starred alongside Brian Burnam, Luis Saguar, Mackenzie Firgens, and Fred Pitts; and Crazy in 2006, co-starring Waylon Payne, Ali Larter from Heroes, and Scott Michael Campbell. He also had a guest starring role on the small screen as Craig in the mystery-crime-drama-thriller Night Stalker, which starred Stuart Townsend, Gabrielle Union, and Eric Jungmann, in 2005.
However, Garrison didn’t garner celebrity status until he was given the role of Tweener in 2005 in Prison Break, which stars Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, Amaury Nolasco, Paul Adelstein, Robert Knepper, and Wade Williams. Garrison’s role didn’t make it into season two of the show.
Besides his role as Tweener, Garrison made headlines—but in a negative sense—for two car accidents in late 2006. He first rear-ended a vehicle after leaving an L.A. night club on October 20, 2006, although no damage was reported. However, on December 2, Garrison was involved in a much more serious vehicle accident in Beverly Hills, California, involving the death of a seventeen-year-old boy and the injuries of two fifteen-year-old girls (all three were passengers) after Garrison crashed his SUV into a tree. Police investigations discovered alcohol bottles in the car and pointed to alcohol intoxication on the part of Garrison; in fact, blood tests revealed he had more than twice the legal limit and that he had taken cocaine.
Recounts of the events differ between Garrison—who says he has no recollection of the night—as well as various eyewitnesses and Garrison’s lawyer. Garrison ended up being charged with vehicle manslaughter, driving under the influence, and providing alcohol to a minor. If convicted, Garrison could end up in jail for six months—which is slightly ironic seeing as his most famous role is on Prison Break.
Garrison appears in the film The Shooter, starring Mark Wahlberg, Michael Pena, Danny Glover, Kate Mara, and Tate Donovan, which was released in late March 2007.
