Lara Flynn BoyleAmerican actress Lara Flynn Boyle, born March 24, 1970, once had a bit part in the popular teenage flick Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, released in 1986, but her scene as eliminated from the final cut of the film. She’s better known for her television roles as Helen Gamble in The Practice, Donna Hayward in Twin Peaks, and Alex in Threesome. She also played Wayne’s girlfriend in Wayne’s World in 1992.
The Davenport, Iowa, native was diagnosed with dyslexia and a learning disability at a young age, and was sent to an improvisational workshop to learn how to better express herself. While enrolled in the workshop, Lara developed an interest in acting. She later went on to study at the Chicago Academy for the Arts on a scholarship.
In her sophomore year, Lara appeared in the television mini-series Amerika that aired for fourteen and a half hours (including commercials) over seven nights. The next year, in 1988, she made her film debut with Poltergeist III, and followed that movie with the made-for-TV movie The Preppie Murder in 1989.
In 1990 she did a television commercial for Calvin Klein's Obsession and the same year she landed her part in David Lynch’s cult series, Twin Peaks. Many consider this role to be Lara’s big break into the acting scene. In 1993 she appeared as the psychotic temp in the thriller The Temp, after appearances in successful movies such as The Rookie in 1990 and Wayne's World in 1992.
Lara also appeared in several films that no one has heard of and were box office disasters. These include The Dark Backward in 1991, The Road to Wellville in 1994, Baby's Day Out in 1994, and Farmer and Chase in 1997, which only brought in $1,323.
In 1997 Lara auditioned for the title role in David E Kelley’s comedy Ally McBeal. She lost the part to Calista Flockhart, but impressed David so much that he created the role of Assistant District Attorney Helen Gamble in his other show, legal drama The Practice.
In 1998 Lara performed brilliantly as Helen Jordan in Todd Solondz’s dramatic comedy, Happiness. Her role as Helen Jordan earned her the National Board of Review’s Ensemble Performance Award.
Lara played the alien Serleena in the 2002 blockbuster film Men in Black II, with Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith. In 2005 she appeared for seven episodes on the dramatic television series Las Vegas.
She will also appear in the 2007 television movie The House Next Door.
Lara was married to John Patrick Dee III from 1996 to 1998, and has been romantically linked to actors Jack Nicholson, Richard Dean Anderson, Kyle MacLachlan, David Spade, and Eric Dane. YUDDY |
