Laura LinneyShe is fast becoming renowned as one of Hollywood’s most talented actresses. Laura Linney, born February 5, 1964, in New York City, is a film actress who has also dabbled in television acting and theater. She grew up with her parents, high-profile playwright Romulus Linney, and Ann Leggett Perse, a nurse, as well as her half-sister Susan.
Linney graduated with a bachelor of arts from Brown University in 1986, but also studied at renowned schools such as Julliard School and the Moscow Art Theatre.
Laura played minor roles in several films in the early 1990s, including her film debut as a young teacher in Lorenzo’s Oil in 1992, starring Nick Nolte and Susan Sarandon. But then she made herself known in the competitive world of acting later in the decade when she was cast as one of the lead roles in several prominent thrillers, all in a row—Congo in 1995, co-starring Dylan Walsh; Primal Fear in 1996, with Richard Gere and Edward Norton; and Absolute Power in 1997, with Clint Eastwood (who also directed), Gene Hackman, and Ed Harris.
Linney also starred alongside Jim Carrey in the critically acclaimed The Truman Show in 1998, where she played Jim’s character’s fake wife. Two years later, Laura was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her work in You Can Count on Me, a highly regarded low-budget film also starring Mark Ruffalo and Matthew Broderick. Linney kept busy in 2003, appearing in three successful films. Her roles were in Mystic River, with Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, and Laurence Fishburne; The Life of David Gale; and, most notably, Love Actually, a clever romantic comedy starring several prominent actors, including Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, and Keira Knightley.
The following year, Linney received another Academy Award nomination, this time for Best Supporting Actress, for her role as the wife of Liam Neeson’s character in Kinsey. She also received critical acclaim for her roles in The Exorcism of Emily Rose and The Squid and the Whale—the latter for which she received yet another nomination, this time a Golden Globe.
Television acting has also played a major role in Laura Linney’s acting career. She won her first Emmy in 2002 for Wild Iris and her second in 2004 for Frasier, as the recurring love interest of main character Frasier, played by Kelsey Grammer. Laura Linney is also a Broadway actress.
She was married David Adkins, a man she met at Julliard School, for five years from 1995 to 2000. YUDDY |
