Lauren Graham Bio

Lauren GrahamLauren Graham is beyond a shadow of a doubt most known and admired for her sarcastic yet sensitive portrayal of witty and fast-talking Lorelai Gilmore on the hit television series Gilmore Girls. In fact, she is sometimes referred to as Lorelai instead of Lauren in real life.
Her most famous and fabulous character is an inspiration to many for funky fashion sense, a sarcastic sense of humor, the ability to talk a mile a minute, and an unbelievable knowledge of pop culture.
Lauren was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on March 16, 1967, the daughter of parents Donna Grant and Lawrence Graham, who divorced in 1972, when Lauren was only five. Her mother left to join a rock band and Lauren grew up with and was raised by her father. Together, they moved to D.C. although the two traveled together quite regularly and frequently.
While in school, Lauren took a strong interest in acting, along with dance and cheerleading. As she grew up, she participated in community theater and acted in various other productions. In 1990, Lauren graduated from Barnard College with a BA in English and then went on to obtain her master’s degree in acting, graduating from Southern Methodist University in 1992.
While attempting to pursue a career in acting, Lauren worked as a cocktail waitress to support herself. She moved to Hollywood in 1995 and landed several guest star roles on primetime TV sitcoms, such as 3rd Rock From the Sun, starring John Lithgow, Kristen Johnston, and French Stewart; and Caroline in the City, a show featuring Lea Thompson. Graham also graced the screen with appearances in Law and Order; Seinfeld, as Jerry Seinfeld’s date; and NewsRadio. She also starred alongside Molly Ringwald and Jenna Elfman in the failed series Townies, which was born and died in 1996.
Lauren’s big break, of course, came when she was thirty-three, landing the leading role of Lorelai Gilmore, co-starring Alexis Bledel as Lorelai’s daughter, Rory, on Gilmore Girls in 2000. The show, created and produced by Amy Sherman-Palladino and husband Daniel Palladino until the end of the sixth season, really took off and quickly gained a loyal fan following. Gilmore Girls also stars regulars Scott Patterson, Melissa McCarthy, Keiko Agena, Kelly Bishop, and Edward Herrmann. The show is currently in its seventh and final season.
On the big screen, Lauren has appeared and starred in movies such as Sweet November in 2001, starring Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron; Bad Santa in 2003, with Billy Bob Thornton; and The Pacifier in 2005, opposite Vin Diesel. She is also starring opposite Steve Carell in Evan Almighty, released in June of 2007, as Evan Baxter’s wife Joan.
Lauren has, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, never been married, but she has dated notable actors such as Matthew Perry, Robert Maschio, Marc Blucas, and Tate Donovan. YUDDY |
