At school, Leslie held the prestigious position of being the head of the school’s cheerleading squad and dating one of the football players. After graduating from Syracuse University, Leslie went on to the Harvard Graduate School of Business where she gained an MBA.
Leslie Gold began her radio career in the mid-90s. Prior to that, she owned the Bishop Manufacturing Company, a successful, medium-size building products manufacturing company. Around that time she married a man she only refers to as "Squatty" when she is on air. After ten years, she became bored with the business and the marriage and she sold the 160-employee company and turned her attention to a longtime passion, radio, and decided to follow her father into the business.
Leslie used her skills to talk her way onto a weekend program, whose specialty was aimed at having people call in to the show, in Westport, Connecticut. Later she became a co-host on a very successful radio program in Boston called "Two Chicks Dishing." The program was honored with a mock-up photograph on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. In 1999 Leslie worked for a New York radio show that had changed its format from music to talk radio.
Over the years Leslie Gold has become quite a phenomenon with her ability to name disco music from the 1970s.
Gold began broadcasting on Sirius satellite radio in January of 2005, until taking up her current position in January of 2006 with 92.3 Free FM radio, which she hosts with comedian Chuck Nice and her producer Paul Brennen between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. daily.
In May of 2006, her audience was expanded to include the San Francisco Bay area, on 106.9 Free FM. The show is a mix of Howard Stern low brow humor, sex talk, discussion, and serious comment on most topical subjects.
Past shows have featured segments such as "What's My Perversion," "The Wheel of Wife Beaters," "The Chick on Chicks," "Valentine's Day Divorce," and "The Flaming Stripper Bar B Q."
Leslie Gold’s partner in life is the rock drummer Carmine Appice. Appice himself is well known in the rock world as the backing drummer for such celebrities as Rod Stewart and Ozzy Osbourne.
Gold makes no secret of her likes and dislikes when on the air. She has a passion for Lenny Kravitz and a huge dislike for Hillary Clinton. Another deep dislike she has is for Kathy Lee Gifford, so far as to infiltrate the Late Show with David Letterman when Lee Gifford was guest hosting the program, and tossing Gifford a badly needed bra.
Leslie has hosted her own television show in New York called The Radiochick on the Prowl, and has herself appeared on such TV shows as Larry King Live.
Celebrities who have stopped by on her radio program in the form of impersonations include many from the cast of The Sopranos, as well as Jon Bon Jovi and movie actors including Willem Dafoe, Robert Duvall, and Sylvester Stallone. The program also receives calls from show regulars, such as Jesus, Bill Cosby, Barry White, and Bono. (all callers who like to do impersonations).
On Friday afternoons Leslie does a special segment entitled, "Chick on Chicks" where she speaks to men like no other woman and tells heartbroken and soul searching spouses and boyfriends exactly what they don’t want to hear, the truth about their relationships.
In addition to numerous local television appearances in the New York area, she has also been featured in the New York Times and in Hugh Hefner’s Playboy magazine, among many others.
On May 24, 2007, at 5 p.m., the radio show Leslie worked for, 92.3 FREE FM, was taken off the air and replaced with K-Rock.
Leslie and Carmine currently live in uptown Manhattan, New York.
