Lily Allen Biography Lily Allen was born on May 2, 1985 in Hammersmith, London. Her parents, Keith Allen and Allison also had two other children, Rebecca and Alfie. Allen was born into a pop iconic legacy as the goddaughter of infamous Clash guitarist Joe Strummer. Allen’s reputation as a well known party-bad girl singer/songwriter is better known for her hit song “Smile”. “Smile” reached number one on the UK Billboard Charts in the summer of 2006. The climb to the top, however, was not an easy one for Allen who was rejected by several record labels before she called in her well connected grandparentage, to secure a recording contract with Warner Music Group in 2002. That still did not prove to be the big break she was seeking. An unexpected shake-up at WMG stalled her budding carrer when the executives that originaly signed her were fired, leaving her project on the back burner.
Lily Allen was eventually dropped from her record label. At that time she decided to leave the music industry to study horticulture with the hopes of becoming a florist. It was her fierce passion for music that drew her back to recording. It was 2004 that saw Allen writing music, and once again in the studio. They say sometimes you have to take a small step back in order to take one giant step forward. The following year Lilly Allen was signed to Regal Records. The label did very little to promote her album, so Allen took matters into her own hands. Allen created a MySpace account and began posting music to the popular social networking site. Allen's debut album, “Alright- Still”, was released as a limited-edition 12" vinyl in the UK on July ’06. It was later released in Januar ’07 in the United States that her first album sold 34,000 copies and landed her at number twenty on the Billboard Album Chart. Entertainment Weekly named "Alright Still" as one of the top 10 albums of 2006. Despite her musical success, Allen has been the subject of many controversies. Her bold criticism of other artists has not won her any popularity prizes among the inner musical circles. Reports on her hard partying, arrests and erratic behavior at that time over shadowed her still developing career. In August of 2007, Allen was detained at Los Angeles International Airport. She was questioned, searched, and ultimatley had her US work visa revoked by authorities.
In late 2007 Lily proudly announced her pregnancy but her happiness was short lived when in January 2008 Lily suffered a miscarriage. But 2008 was to turn into a better year for Lily when she was signed a one series contract to present her own BBC Three TV show entitled Lily Allen and Friends based on the social networking phenomenon that helped to launch her music career. Lily's personal life also took on some changes when she parted company with My Chemical Brother's Ed Simons and began a relationship with Robertson Furze. Yuddy |
