Lisa Loeb Known for her tortoise shell eyeglasses, Lisa Ann Loeb became a successful singer and songwriter in the 1990s, and is currently starring in her own reality television show.
Lisa Loeb was born on March 11, 1968, in Bethesda, Maryland. Her parents then moved Loeb and siblings Benjamin, Debbie, and Philip to Dallas where they were raised. Loeb graduated from the Hockaday School, a private girls high school, in 1986. She then completed her degree in comparative literature from Brown University in 1990.
Loeb formed her first band while studying at Brown with friend Liz Mitchell. They dubbed their band Liz and Lisa then added fellow classmate Duncan Sheik as their guitar player. The group released two albums together before Loeb branched out to begin her career as a solo artist.
While living in New York City, Loeb met actor Ethan Hawke, who lived in an apartment across the street from hers, through mutual friends in the New York City theater community. He then took a copy of Loeb’s song, "Stay (I Missed You)" to Ben Stiller who at the time was directing the film Reality Bites (1994). He agreed to use the song on the soundtrack and it eventually hit number one on the American pop charts becoming Loeb’s most successful single.
In 1995, Loeb came out with her debut album, Tails, co-produced by her boyfriend at the time, Juan Patino. Although none of her other singles were nearly as successful as "Stay," the album did reach platinum status.
Her following albums have not been nearly as successful as her debut, although she has had a couple singles make it onto soundtracks. To date Loeb has released five albums, her latest being The Very Best of Lisa Loeb, which was released in January of 2006.
Loeb has also had a moderately successful acting career over the years with her television debut on The Nanny in 1998. She also supplied the voice of the newborn baby in The Rugrats Movie in 1998, and had a role in House on Haunted Hill in 1999.
Loeb then co-starred on the reality show Dweezil & Lisa, along with her longtime boyfriend, Dweezil Zappa. The show aired on the Food Network in 2004. But when the couple split after six years together, the show also split. In 2006, Loeb landed her own reality show on the E! Channel called #1 Single. The show centered on Loeb’s goals of family, love, success, and her career.
She currently resides in Los Angeles, California, while not touring. Loeb has also made a recent appearance as a guest co-host on Barbara Walter's show, The View. Her episode aired on August 2, 2006. YUDDY |
