Liv Tyler was born on July 1, 1977, in Portland, Maine. Her mother, Bebe Buell, a model and former Playboy playmate, allowed her daughter to believe her father was Todd Rundgren. She spent the first twelve years of her life as Liv Rundgren. When her biological father, Steven Tyler, began coming around with his daughter Mia, Liv Tyler noticed that they looked almost identical and her mother told her the truth. She changed her last name from Rundgren to Tyler.
At the age of fourteen, Liv Tyler tried her hand at modeling, but soon turned her sights to acting. In 1994 she was cast with Alicia Silverstone in the video for Aerosmith’s song "Crazy" and the provocative video helped to popularize the song and get Liv Tyler noticed.
Shortly thereafter, Tyler was cast in two films, Silent Fall in 1994 and Heavy in 1995. The director of Heavy was so interested in using Liv Tyler that he delayed production on the film until she was finished filming Silent Fall.
Many films followed, including Stealing Beauty in 1996; Tom Hank’s directorial debut That Thing You Do in 1996; Inventing the Abbotts in 1997, with Joaquin Phoenix; and the film that made her a real star, Armageddon in 1998. In Armageddon Tyler starred as the daughter of Bruce Willis and the love interest of Ben Affleck.
Liv Tyler fell for Joaquin Phoenix during the filming of Abbotts. They dated until 1998. During that time there were rumors that Liv Tyler had cheated on Phoenix with Armageddon co-star Bruce Willis, and she was the reason behind the demise of his marriage to Demi Moore, but all parties denied the rumors. She was also romantically linked to Casey Affleck, the brother of one of her other Armageddon co-stars, Ben Affleck.
In the summer of 1998 Liv Tyler began dating British rocker Royston Langdon. The couple became engaged in 2001 and tied the knot in 2003. In December of 2004 they became the proud parents of Milo William Langdon.
Although her relationship with Langdon takes up much of her time, Liv Tyler has continued to star in films. She has co-starred in films with the likes of Richard Gere (Dr T. and the Women in 2000), Matt Dillon, and Michael Douglas (One Night at McCool’s in 2001). Afterwards, Liv Tyler teamed up with Ben Affleck again for Jersey Girl in 2004. She also starred in the award winning Lord of the Rings Trilogy with fims being produced from 2001 to 2003, as the Arwen, an elf from Middle Earth.
Her upcoming projects include the films Empty City with Adam Sandler and Coin Locker Babies with Val Kilmer.
