Loloita Davidovich Canadian born actress Lolita Davidovich has had a long and varied career on both the big and small screen. She is most noted, however, for her work in Blaze and The L Word. Lolita Davidovich was born July 15, 1961 in London, Ontario, Canada. Of Serbian extraction, she attended the Herbert Berghof Studio to study acting. Prolific in both television and film, Davidovich earned her onscreen debut in 1981 with a one-episode appearance on the sitcom Three’s Company opposite series regulars John Ritter, Joyce DeWitt, Suzanne Somers, and Don Knotts. She bounced around the entertainment world for nearly a decade, earning multiple credits to her résumé but few leads. During this beginning stage of her career, she did manage to land a notable role in the 1986 film Blindside opposite Harvey Keitel and Lori Hallier. But it was 1989 that would offer her the career boost she needed. Beating out 600 other potentials with a knockout audition, Davidovich landed the role of Blaze Starr opposite Paul Newman in the biopic Blaze. Winning critical attention after so many years in the business, Davidovich’s career was finally on its way.
Following her breakout performance, Davidovich appeared opposite John Malkovich and Andie MacDowell in the comedy drama The Object of Beauty (1991). She also took a bit part in the star-studded, Oscar winning film by Oliver Stone, JFK. Her costars included Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Bacon, Gary Oldman, and a laundry list of others big names. Winning a more substantial role in Brian De Palma’s Raising Cain, Davidovich and John Lithgow were well-received as the leads, but unfortunately, the film itself fell flat with audiences. Bouncing back in 1993, she once again secured the recognition of critics with her turn opposite Donald Sutherland in the whimsical film Younger and Younger. She followed with a part in the 1994 remake Intersection, which also starred Sharon Stone and Richard Gere. Fans and critics felt the remake paled in comparison to the original, and it was another flop for Davidovich. Helping get her career back on track, Davidovich landed a role in the commercial biopic Cobb in 1994. With a multitude of roles under her acting belt, Davidovich was free to take more independent roles in addition to her big budget works. To that end, she appeared with Alan Alda, Mira Sorvino, and Kimberly Williams in Jake’s Women in 1996.
She was back on a role of hits, especially noted for her lead in Harvest of Fire with bit parts by Jennifer Garner, Justin Chambers, and Patty Duke. Taking a variety of roles in the late 90s, she appeared in everything from Jungle 2 Jungle with Tim Allen to the Oscar-winning Gods and Monsters with Ian McKellen and Brendan Fraser. Others may recognize her for her work in Mystery, Alaska starring Russell Crowe and Play It to the Bone with Antonio Banderas and Woody Harrelson. From 2000 on, she shifted emphasis to the television arena and took guest spots on The Agency, Monk, The L Word, The Eleventh Hour, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Her latest role was on State of Mind opposite Lili Taylor. In her personal life, she married director Ron Shelton and subsequently appeared in many of his projects. They are currently still together, and they have one daughter, Valentina, who was born in 1999. |
