On March 25, 1962, Marcia Anne Cross was born in Marlborough, Massachusetts, to Mark and Janet Cross. She wanted to act as a child and made that her goal. Upon her graduation from Julliard School in New York, she set out to become an actress and quickly landed a role on the daytime soap opera The Edge of Night. When the show was cancelled, Cross found other roles in television movies and other soap operas including One Life to Live and Days of Our Lives.
In 1991 she was cast on the popular nighttime soap opera Knots Landing. Cross left that show after one year to take the role that would make her famous. She joined the cast of another nighttime soap opera, Melrose Place. Cross played psychotic doctor Kimberly Shaw and fans of the show just loved her. Her performance stood out among a sea of other beautiful leading ladies on the show, including Heather Locklear, Courtney Thorne Smith, and Josie Bissett.
During her tenure on Melrose Place, Marcia Cross suffered a terrible loss. Her longtime boyfriend, actor Richard Jordon, died of a brain tumor in 1993. Marcia Cross continued to act on Melrose Place, but left in 1997 to pursue her master’s degree in psychology. She succeeded in obtaining it.
Marcia Cross seems to have dated little, at least publicly, from the time that Jordan died until she became engaged in August of 2005, to stockbroker Tom Mahoney. The couple was married on June 24, 2006, in San Gabriel, California.
Marcia Cross returned to acting full time after receiving her degree with a role on the WB’s Everwood, again playing a doctor. She left that show to take the role on Desperate Housewives. Cross’s role was not only popular with the fans, but gained her attention with the critics as well. In the two years that the show has aired, Marcia Cross has been nominated for the Emmy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, Television Critic Awards, and Screen Actor’s Guild Awards for her role as Bree Van De Kamp. Also starring in Desperate Housewives are Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria, Nicollette Sheridan, Brenda Strong, James Denton, Ricardo Chavira, and Doug Savant.
Marcia Cross has also starred in some films, most of them insignificant. However, that may change in 2007. She is rumored to be starring as Pamela Ewing in the upcoming movie version of the nighttime soap opera, Dallas.
