Mia Kirshner

Though she’s not yet a household name, Mia Kirshner’s dramatic appearances and onscreen performances combine to make her the topic of conversation in certain circles. Ranked number 38 on Stuff magazine’s 2002 “102 Sexiest Women in the World” list, Kirshner has appeared in several men’s magazines as an actress of both beauty and interest. Though her most recent role is that of a murder victim in Brian De Palma’s The Black Dahlia, starring Scarlett Johansson and Hilary Swank, Kirshner has been gracing the small and big screens for well over a decade. 

Born January 25, 1975, Mia Kirshner hails from ’s Toronto, Ontario . Her father, of German decent, worked as a journalist for The Canadian Jewish News and her mother was a schoolteacher. Though Mia initially thought she would follow in her father’s footsteps, she reports being inspired to pursue an acting career after seeing Vivian Leigh’s performance in Gone With the Wind. 

Kirshner began working in television, making small appearances, until her first film role in Cadillac Girls, in 1993. She followed this with the film Exotica in 1994, which attracted attention from many casting agents. Though it would have been possible for her to pursue a full-time acting career, Kirshner opted to continue her education, and she attended McGill University in Montreal where she studied nineteenth century Russian literature with a minor film.
