Mia St John Biography Yet another of Hugh Hefner’s glamorous Playboy models Mia St John, came to the attention of the Playboy entrepreneur in 1999 after building a lucrative and successful boxing career. Mia St John was born on June 24th 1967, in San Francisco, California, of Mexican and American parents, where by the age of 6 she had developed and interest in Tae Kwon Do and took part in the competing circuit of the sport. As time went by Mia’s passion for combat sports grew and she began perusing other areas of the sport such as boxing, and by February 14th 1997, Mia had made her pro-debut in boxing, knocking out her opponent in fifty-four seconds into the first round. At this time she gained the billing title, ‘The Knockout’. Having reached the highest standard in her career, Mia signed with the boxing entrepreneur, Don King, known for his promotion of famous male boxers such as, Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, George Foreman and Evander Holyfield. After a year with King Mia signed with his rival Bob Arum of Top Rank fame. At Top Rank, Mia spent four years opening for all of Oscar De La Hoya's major fights. During the time she devoted to building her boxing career Mia didn’t lose sight of the fact that a formal education was also necessary and she earned herself a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from California State University of Northridge in June of 1994.
By October 2001, Mia St. John ventured into the world of self promotion and become a free agent in order to fulfill her ambition of fighting competitor, Christy Martin. It was December 2002, that saw Mia getting her wish when she met martin and went 10 amazing rounds with her opponent. Mia’s career then took on yet another turn with her developing a modeling career and appearing on the cover of Hefner’s Playboy magazine November 1999. Wearing a pair of silky red shorts and posing with red boxing gloves, Mia not only appeared on the cover but also filled an eleven page celebrity pictorial. Mia insisted the pictures maintain a boxing theme so that the world would know she is a fighter first and foremost because as Mia's mother once told her "Fighters are not made, they are born and my daughter was born a fighter."
With fame came interest from the public and Mai was soon in great demand from many TV shows such as Jay Leno, Conan O Brien , "Good Morning America," "Entertainment Tonight," "Extra," "The Best Damn Sports Show," "E," and countless others. She has also acted in commercials and played herself on the t. v. show "Pacific Blue." Mia also has her own Playstation game by EA sports. As a savvy business woman, Mia also took her talents to the mass market and brought out her own DVD, Million Dollar Workout and in penning a fitness book, The Knockout Body’, Mia also added to her resume the role of author to which she hopes to add a book of her memoirs. As of December 2008 St. John’s boxing record is 45 wins (18 by KO), 9 losses, and 2 draws. |
