Mindy McCready Mindy McCready is a talented and beautiful country music star who unfortunately is more renowned for her incredibly long list of personal and professional set backs then her vocal skill. Mindy’s troubles stem back to her high-school years. She was kicked out of several schools in her home state of Florida before graduating from an “alternative learning center.” It would seem that her church upbringing should have curbed any rowdy behavior. A lot like many other vocalists, this was where Mindy first started to sing at the age of three. The Christian discipline did not take root in this free spirits character. It did little to guide her personal choices. Mindy was born in Fort Myers, Florida on November 30, 1975. She did manage to remain focused in the beginning of her career. A move to Nashville, Tennessee better known as the country-music capital of the world at the age of 21 put her in the right place at the right time. McCready signed a record deal with BNA Records, a division of Sony BMG Music Entertainment. It seemed that instantly BMG was intrigued by her sound as they released her debut album “Ten Thousand Angels” in 1996. The album was a big success that propelled McCready into the spot light. The album was certified gold and it produced such hits as “Ten Thousand Angels” and “Guys Do it All the Time.” She went on to release the albums If I Don’t Stay the Night (1998). The album suffered the dreaded sophomore jinx and was less acclaim despite reaching gold status. It generated the singles “What if I Do,” “Other Side of This Kiss,” and “You’ll Never Know.”
Her third and fourth follow-up albums, I’m Not So Tough (1999) and Mindy McCready (2002), were consecutive commercial failures. McCready then split with BNA Records over creative differences, not unlike the ever popular irreconcilable differences excuse used in Hollywood divorces. Later in 2000 she hooked up with Capitol Records. The label dumped her after reviewing the lackluster sales from her self titled album “Mindy McCready.” Mindy’s personal life however reads like a juicy day time drama series. The numerous legal and relationship troubles have fed the general public salacious tidbits. Since 2004, McCready has been charged with forging bogus painkiller prescriptions. She has been arrested for a number of reckless violations that include: driving under the influence, identity theft, unlawful imprisonment, assault & battery, resisting arrest, and one report of a prescription drug overdose. She has violated her probation more often then not. This extensive criminal record sits her right in the company of celebrities like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan Reports claim that in July 21, 2007 McCready was up to her old tricks again. There was an arrest in Florida for battery and resisting arrest. Two days later she was released on a $1,000 bond. Not more than a few days afterward, Mindy was taken into custody on two more counts of breaking parole. Mindy is due to appear in court by early September 2007 regarding probation violation. McCready’s substance abuse, namely painkillers and antidepressants could be seen as a scream for help. Further evidence would be the suicide attempts and the extremely tumultuous relationship with now ex-boyfriend country-star wannabe Billy McKnight. It has been alleged that after the couple broke up, McKnight was charged with attempted murder and burglary. Reports claim that Billy McKnight broke into McCready’s home, ransacked her belongings, then beat her mercilessly. McCready was a guest on Oprah Winfrey’s show in 2005. She publicly admitted to her problems with McKnight, suicide attempts, drug abuse, depression, and multiple run-ins with the law.
McCready has also been romantically linked to actor Dean Cain who recently played a TV reporter in 'Calendar Girls' with British actresses Helen Mirren and Julie Walters. The couple were briefly engaged in ‘06. Cain is known for hosting 'Ripley’s Believe or it Not' and more notably for his role as Clark Kent & Superman on the T.V. series “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman”, co-starring Teri Hatcher of “Desperate Housewives” fame. McCready has a son, Zander Ryan, McKnight’s. The baby was born on March 25, 2006. |
