Miranda Kerr Biography 

Australian model Miranda Kerr has found international success with her work as a Victoria’s Secret Angel, but she has proved to be more than just a pretty face. To that end, Kerr is currently working on her first book and is active in various charities. She also leads a rich spiritual life.

Miranda May Kerr was born April 20, 1983 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Some sources, however, place Kerr’s year of birth as 1985. Kerr was raised in Gunnedah, New South Wales with her parents, Therese Kerr and John Kerr. She has one younger brother.

Raised in a rural town with everything from horseback riding to motorbikes, Kerr has described her childhood as “grounding” and lacking pretension.

She received her initial education from All Hallows’ School. She had intended to pursue a secondary education in nutrition, but her blossoming modeling career eventually took precedent.

Her modeling started very early on, as Kerr entered the Dolly Magazine/Impulse Model Competition at just thirteen years old. Taking top prize, Kerr traveled to Sydney for her first photo shoot.

The shoot garnered controversy, however, as conservative media outlets claimed the fourteen year old Kerr was too young to be photographed in swimsuits. The shoot was even labeled by some as child pornography, a claim that Kerr vehemently refutes. “I was fully clothed! Doing a winter shoot! They just made something out of nothing.”

She continued to model through the controversy but was struck a blow when her high school boyfriend died unexpectedly.

Taking some time off to recover, she eventually returned and dedicated herself even more completely to her career. Her first major agency was Chadwick Models. Not soon after, she moved to Chic Model Managements.

Australian success was followed by Japanese success, and this eventually culminated in a move to New York. By 2004, she was with Next agency and consistently booking runway shows. During this time, she worked with Nicola Finetti, Betsey Johnson, Roberto Cavalli, and others.

2006 proved a big year for Kerr as she won a contract with noted cosmetics company Maybelline. This campaign solidified her commercial appeal in all major markets, including the United States. Not long after, Victoria’s Secret offered Kerr an opportunity to be their newest Angel. She accepted, and in doing so, became the first Australian model under contract with the lingerie company.

She worked with fellow Angels Karolina Kurkova, Alessandra Ambrosio, Gisele Bundchen, Adriana Lima, Heidi Klum, and others.

Outside of modeling, Kerr can be seen in the Kanye West and Pharrell Williams music video “Number One.”

She is also currently working a self-help book entitled Treasure Yourself.

Making other recent headlines, Kerr and socialite Paris Hilton have had several noted spats and are known to be less than friendly.

In her personal life, Kerr was romantically linked to Adrian Camilleri followed by musician Jay G Lyon. Kerr and Lyon were together for three years before deciding to go their separate ways.

There were rumors that the relationship ended because of an affair with actor Orlando Bloom, but Kerr maintains they are simply friends, and the split had nothing to do with him.

She has recently converted to Buddhism and consequently chants twenty minutes each morning and again at night.
