Molly Ringwald Molly Ringwald was born in 1968 in Roseville, California. Her father is the blind jazz pianist, Robert Scott Ringwald, and her mother, Adele Edith is a housewife. She has two sisters, Elizabeth and Kelly. Growing up, her parents owned a cafeteria in Los Angeles. Ringwald’s first acting job was at the age of five when she starred in the stage production of Alice in Wonderland; she was the dormouse. At the age of six Ringwald released her first album with her father called Dixieland Jazz. Molly’s acting career took off at the age of eleven, when she appeared in a few episodes on the show Different Strokes (1979). That same year she landed a role on the television show, The Facts of Life. Her character was written out after the first season. During the Brat Pack era, Molly also appeared in Pretty in Pink (1986) co-starring Harry Dean Stanton, Jon Cryer, Annie Potts, and James Spader. One of her best known performances was for the film The Breakfast Club (1985), co-starring Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez, and Anthony Michael Hall. Throughout the 1980’s Ringwald was Hollywood’s leading lady.
Throughout filming of Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club, Ringwald was dating co-star Anthony Michael Hall. She also dated Dweezil Zappa, son of Frank Zappa, while filming Pretty in Pink. Ringwald was also linked with Adam Horowitz of the Beastie Boys in the mid-1980’s. Her career began to slow down in the early 1990’s. Ringwald primarily starred in made for TV movies and B-rated horror films. In 1996 she starred on the new television series, Townies, on ABC. The show received praise from the critics but poor viewer ratings so it was dropped after nine episodes.When Molly’s career in the United States stalled, Ringwald decided to move to France and lived there for four years. During that time she appeared in several French-language films. While in France, Ringwald married Valery Lameignere in 1999. They filed for divorce in 2002. One year later, Ringwald gave birth to her first child, Mathilda Ereni, with boyfriend Panio Gianopoulos. Molly has since returned to the stage. She is currently performing on Broadway and in London. In 2003 she starred in the play Enchanted April playing the part of Rose. In 2004 she landed the role of Sally in the play, When Harry Met Sally, in London. Also in 2004, Ringwald starred in the play Modern Orthodox, opposite Jason Biggs and Craig Bierko.In 2006 she is set to star in the musical version of Sweet Charity, which originally starred Christina Applegate. Ringwald has also recently appeared in the parody Not Another Teen Movie (2001), which starred Jamie Presley, Chris Evans, Chyler Leigh, Eric Christian Olsen, and Mia Krishner. In 2005, Ringwald announced that she was in negotiations with MTV Networks to do a sequel for Sixteen Candles. |
