Molly Simms Molly Sims hails from Murray, Kentucky where she was born May 25, 1973. Sims lived in Murray throughout her childhood and most of her young adulthood. Graduating from Murray High School, Sims only left home to attend Vanderbilt University in nearby Nashville, Tennessee. She eventually dropped out to pursue modeling. By the late 90s, Sims had made a name for herself through this avenue. In 1998, she was invited to be one of the many celebrity hosts on Mission: Makeover. The premise of the show was very simple. They took one insecure teenager with an important impending event (graduation, senior prom, job interview), and the celebrity hosts performed a complete overhaul on the teen’s current style and look in a drastic 24 hour makeover. Other hosts included musicians Nick Cannon, Britney Spears and Mandy Moore, as well as actors Melissa Joan Hart and Marlon Wayans. In 2000, Sims was named as the new host for MTV’s House of Style. House of Style aired January 1, 1989 and focused on anything and everything related to fashion—the modeling industry, lives of actual supermodels, even eating disorders. The other host was Cindy Crawford, who was at the helm for six years and is often credited with much of the show’s success. Unfortunately the show was cancelled after its 11-year run not long after Sims took over.
Sims continued to appear in many MTV productions in a host capacity. She was the host of MTV’s Fashionably Loud: Spring Break, Cancun (2001) and MTV’s Fashionably Loud: Sports Illustrated Edition (2002). She also appeared in the 2001 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, notorious for its glamour, glitz, and over the top extravagance. By 2002, Sims started broadening her career horizons from television and modeling to film. Although, after her first film, Sims may have wished she held off for a better script. She appeared in the widely panned Frank McKlusky, C.I. (2002). She only had a bit part, billed just as “injured girl,” but after this dog, Sims returned to television. In 2002, Sims acted in one episode of Andy Richter Controls the Universe. In 2003, she returned to where she was most comfortable—MTV. She hosted Beauty and the Beat, while in the same year made another one-episode appearance in The Twilight Zone. In 2004, Sims finally landed a film role in a movie that was well received. She again only garnered a bit part, but Starsky and Hutch with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson was good exposure for Sims. In 2005, she was a celebrity judge for the Miss USA competition, and in 2006 landed another film role where she actually enjoyed significant screen time. The film was Venus and Vegas starring Eddie Kaye Thomas (American Pie series), Donald Faison (TV’s Scrubs, Clueless) and Jaime Pressly (TV’s My Name is Earl). In 2006 Sims also won a role in The Benchwarmers with Rob Schneider, David Spade and Jon Heder (best known as geeky, awkward Napoleon in Napoleon Dynamite).
Currently, Sims is on the highly successful television series Las Vegas. She is one of the main characters alongside James Caan and Josh Duhamel. In her personal life, Sims was engaged to Stéphane Dessaint but has never actually been married. She has an intense fear of flying, and won’t board an airplane without entering with her right foot and touching the side of the plane with her right hand. If you’re convinced you recognize her but just don’t know from where, you may be thinking of the Old Navy commercials, for whom she is the spokeswoman. |
