Naomi Campbell is best known as a supermodel although she can also add actress, singer, and humanitarian to her resume. She’s been a Victoria Secret model and her face has graced the cover of almost all of the leading fashion magazines including Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle. She is also noted as the first black model to be featured on the cover of Time.

Naomi Campbell was born on May 22, 1970, in Streatham, London. She attended the London Academy for Performing Arts before turning her full attention to modeling. At age fifteen she signed with her first modeling agency and was soon on her way to a successful career. Her exotic look is a result of her Jamaican-Chinese heritage, and the camera loves her features.

In addition to modeling, she has also appeared in several films including Too Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Numar in 1995, Miami Rhapsody with Sarah Jessica Parker in 1995, and Spike Lee’s Girl 6 in 1996. Her television credits include guest roles in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, The Cosby Show, and Fashion Mix.

Although Naomi Campbell has never been married, she has been romantically linked to several of Hollywood’s most famous men. In the 1990s, Naomi Campbell dated actor Robert De Niro. She has also been seen with dancer Joaquin Cortes, boxer MikeTyson, Sylvester Stallone, and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Her romantic relationships have not been confined to actors. She has been linked to British royalty Prince Albert and several high profile musicians. She’s dated both Eric Clapton and U2’s bassist Adam Clayton. Her most recent high profile romance was with the much younger singer Usher. They dated from 2004 to 2005.

Naomi Campbell has also used her celebrity to benefit others. She has done a lot of charity work focusing on helping children and the people of Africa. Since 1997 she has worked closely with former South African president Nelson Mandela. In 2005 she and several other celebrities including Nicole Richie, Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Osbourne, Wyclef Jean, Rachel Hunter, and Janice Dickinson put on Fashion for Relief to help benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Although she is well known as a humanitarian, some wonder if that role stops in her own home. She can be known for having a volatile temper and has been accused several times of abusing her personal help. At least on one occasion she has pleaded guilty. The charges have ranged from personal injuries to employment discrimination to civil battery.

In one case brought against her in 2006, she was accused of throwing her cell phone at her housekeeper.

Following the assault charges, on 16 January 2007, Campbell pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless assault against her maid. She was sentenced to five days community service and ordered to attend two days of an anger management course. On 19 March 2007, Campbell began mopping floors at New York's Sanitation Department for her service.

But that wasn't the last time Campbell would exhibit her temper in public and find herself on the wrong side of prison bars. In early April 2008 while traveling though London's Heathrow airport, she became frustrated with the chaos that had errupted due to a malfunction of the bagage handling system and vented her anger with a spitting session at a Metropolitain police officer.

Naomi was arrested and taken to the local police station where she was locked up until the next day at which point she was released pending charges.
