Nick Di Paolo Bio
Nick Di Paolo

Sometimes controversial, sometimes hard hitting, sometimes compassionate but always brutally honest. This is the brand of comedy that has become synonymous with the stand-up comedian, come actor, writer and talk radio show presenter, Nick Di Paolo. With his contentious opinions on the George W Bush administration, to the proposed policies of  New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, to voicing his opinion on the Don Imus controversy, Nick holds his audience firmly by the......ears!

Nick Di Paolo was born on January 31st 1962 in Danvers, a suburb just north of Boston, Massachusetts. He is an Italian –American, and extremely proud of it, born to parents Nick and Joan Di Paolo. He is the older of two sons and has three sisters.

Nick’s early life was spent in Danvers where he attended Danvers High School when after graduating he went on to study a degree in marketing at the University of Maine. While at the university he was a keen member of the Varsity Football team and a former division 17 football star.

In 1984 when he graduated his course he put his degree in marketing to use as a door to door salesman with Boston Gourmet Foods where he sold the products from the back of a Dodge Mini Van. His other jobs included office employment and hauling beer for a comedy club.

After two years of smelling like frozen food Nick decided that he’d had enough. Nick had realized when he was in high school that he could command an audience with his humour and very quickly used his penchant for making people laugh to climb the ladder of comedy club fame. He attributes his ability to stand on a stage and perform, and occasionally being hissed and booed, to the hard skin he had developed after having the door slammed in his face and being thrown out of office buildings during his career as a salesman.

Di Paolo spent the first couple of years of his comedy career appearing at one night stand venues all over New England before taking his own brand of comedy to Manhattan.

On the New York circuit, Nicks comedy routine, with its sarcastic, seething and cringe-making style, was welcomed by New Yorkers and stood out like a Stars and Stripes flag in a Baghdad high street among all the tame performances that had graced the comedy club stages in the preceding years.

Among his stage appearances in New York were, Catch a Rising Star, The Arsenio Hall Show, Caroline’s and The Comedy Strip. After being selected for HBO’s Young Comedians Special, Nick moved his show to Los Angeles where he found the history of the city and the superficiality of the people too lacking and he moved back to The Big Apple.

At that time it was rumoured that Nick’s goal was to have his star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame.

During his career he has appeared on, The Dave Letterman Show, has been a regular on the Howard Stern show, on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn and Shorties Watching Shorties, an animated series in which Nick voices the character "Baby Nick.”

Among his television appearances are The Sopranos where Nick played, Joey the Cop in an episode that aired in 2002, Howard Stern on Demand in 2006 and on Jimmy Kimmel Live where he played himself.

Nick has twice been nominated for the Chris Rock Show.

Nick now hosts his own radio show in New York City on 92.3 Free FM from noon to 3pm Monday through Friday, where he preceeds Leslie Gold, The Radio Chick.

The show's format is fairly simple, no music just 'free speech'. Nick invites calls from the public on all manor of subjects that he cares to throw out there. Anything from, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s chances in the 2008 presidential elections, interviewing one of Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Magazine stars, Michelle Manhart, how to deal with a pet dog when she is in season and exploring the whys and wherefores of having the wrong testicle removed while undergoing surgery. But always, his uncompromising and unapologetic point of view has his audience rooted to their radios waiting for his next scathing opinion or remark.

On May 24th 2007 at 5.00 pm the radio show Nick worked for, 92.3 FREE fm, was taken off the air and replaced with K-Rock.

Nick is married and now lives in Northern Westchester with his wife and her dog.
